DC is one of the most famous Superhero franchises. As we know Superman and Batman are among DC’s oldest superheroes because they both made their debut in 1938 and 1939. But did you know that there are superheroes from DC who are much older than them. Therefore, this time we will discuss the first superhero in the DC Universe.

So long before Superman and Batman were popular in America, the Staff were already struggling to introduce their comics, before founder Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson inaugurated the DC company in 1939.

1. Jack Woods

The first superhero in the DC Universe was Jack Woods. For those of you who don’t know, this character wears a blue shirt with a red scarf. He first debuted in 1935, through the comic New Fun Comics #1.

According to the story, Jack Woods is a Texas Ranger, or cowboy cop who often deals with criminals from Mexico, at the beginning of the story we can see him defeating two criminals at once.

2. Dr. Occult

The first superhero in the DC Universe is Doctor Occult. So this one character has existed long before Batman appeared, even he was already famous as a human detective who specializes in handling supernatural problems.

Doctor Occult was first debuted in the comic New Fun #6 which was released in 1935. He was the first DC superhero to wear a red cape, underwear on the outside. With his talisman, Doctor Occult manages to solve various cases that cannot be handled by ordinary humans.

3. Speed Saunders

The next first superhero in the DC Universe is Speed Saunders. So in the Detective Comics #1 comic released in 1937, we are told that Speed Saunders or Cyril Saunders, is a detective who solves dangerous cases.

For those of you who don’t know the name DC itself stands for Detective Comics which begins with the Saunders story, the reason why he has the name Speed, because Saunders always solves his cases very quickly.

4. Slam Bradley

Then there’s Slam Bradley. So in Detective Comics #1 it’s not just Speed Saunders, but another detective named Slam Bradley. Although Slam Bradley’s story begins after Speed Saunders.

But his adventures are longer, and he has also worked with Batman. Then in 1981, Slam Bradley reappeared in the 500th issue of Detective Comics, where he teamed up with Batman and Catwoman.

5. Jor-L

Superhero pertama di DC Universe terakhir adalah Jor-L. For those of you DC fans, you must feel familiar with the name Jor-L, indeed this one character has the same name as Kal-El’s father aka Superman.

But the rest of the time he has no relationship with Superman. So according to the story, Jor-L is a future police officer who exists in the year 3000, with a blue suit and a helmet that looks like Batman’s.

Jor-L first debuted in New Adventure Comics #12 in 1937. It was also revealed that Jor-L was one of the first superheroes to travel into space.
