Black Myth: Wukong was officially released on August 20 and managed to break various records on Steam. Developed by Chinese studio Game Science, the game marks its first launch on August 20, 2024 American time.
Despite its recent release, Black Myth: Wukong has already set a number of records, including a record number of players.
The Records that Black Myth: Wukong Broke on Steam
Based on a report from IGN, a few hours after its launch, the game managed to reach a peak of more than 2.2 million players. Black Myth: Wukong has become the most popular single-player game in history on the Steam platform. This feat beats the previous record that Cyberpunk 2077 held.
It’s likely that this number will continue to rise as the weekend approaches and as more people purchase the game.
In addition, the game has received 30,000 reviews on Steam, with most players giving it a very positive assessment. As for reviews, on other game review platforms such as Metacritic, the game even achieved an “unusual” score of 81 out of 100.
Another record shows that less than 24 hours after release, Black Myth: Wukong managed to rank as the second most played game, beating Counter-Strike 2 after PUBG with 3,257,248 players, Palworld with 2,101,867 players, and Valve’s Counter-Strike 2 which had 1,818,773 players. The figure even surpasses some other big games like Dota 2, Elden Ring, and Baldur’s Gate 3.
Will Release on Various Other Platforms
IGN also gave an assessment of the Black Myth game: Wukong. The popular pop culture media outlet stated that “despite some technical issues, Black Myth: Wukong is an action game that offers excellent combat, interesting bosses, intriguing secrets, and a very charming world.”
In addition to being available on Steam, Wukong games will also be released on the PlayStation 5 platform, WeGame, which is a game portal owned by Tencent, and the Epic Games Store. Unfortunately, a version for Xbox Series X and S will be released in the future.
