Japanese actress Konatsu Kato stated that her role as the protagonist, Shimizu Hinako, in Silent Hill f caused her to lose her sense of self, as revealed in her interview with Famitsu via Automaton.
As a spin-off of the main Silent Hill series, this game still presents the distinctive atmosphere of a thick foggy world, a tense mood, and mysteries that surround the player’s every step. Silent Hill f is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Hinako Silent Hill Cast Response
Japanese actress Konatsu Kato shared her experience playing Shimizu Hinako in Silent Hill f. Initially, the recording sessions went smoothly, but as the story progressed, the psychological challenges in the recordings increased, similar to the characteristics of the Silent Hill game.
Kato remembers having performed similar scenes several times. However, there are clear differences in the dialogue and emotions, which are related to the variations in cutscenes in New Game+ mode and player choices.
During the recording session, Kato questioned his identity and Hinako’s fate. While recording the interaction between the two versions of Hinako, Kato felt confused, both as Hinako and as himself.
“There are times when I cry without thinking about anything,” said Kato, as translated by Automaton. “The more time I spent dealing with Hinako, the more confused I became. I remember there were days when I felt like I was going crazy.”
Kato also revealed that he doesn’t remember much about the process of working on Silent Hill f, only memories of feelings of confusion about his identity and place.
Kato admires Hinako’s character for her diverse perspectives despite still being in high school, but he also admits that he has no desire to meet Hinako or enter the world of Silent Hill f, because just imagining such an encounter makes him feel like he’s losing his mind. If Kato found himself in such a world, he says he would “want to disappear in an instant.”
