From the Tekken 5 game, we already know that Heihachi’s father (as well as Kazuya’s grandfather and Jin’s great-grandfather) is Jinpachi Mishima. This Jinpachi used to be the first leader of the Mishima Zaibatsu company. Jinpachi was actually a good person. His style of leading the company was diplomatic enough to almost make him seem like he had no enemies at all.

But as it turns out, the son (Heihachi) has some pretty big ambitions with his father’s company. And to make it happen, he has a crazy plan. He locks up his father in Hon-Maru (the small shrine of the Mishima family headquarters) and makes him die slowly. He chains him up and leaves him there for years.

After that, Heihachi officially became the new leader of the Mishima family. In this era, the King of Iron Fist tournament, which is the setting of the Tekken game story, begins. But before this first event happens, we flashback again at the next point.

2. Heihachi Had a Happy Family, But…

At the Tekken 7 event, Heihachi was willing to reveal the true story of the Mihshima family to a journalist. There, he shared a lot about his relationship with his father. And the fact that Heihachi had a happy family.

Heihachi was once married to a woman from the Hachijo clan, Kazumi Hachijo. Kazumi was Kazuya’s biological mother and Jin Kazama’s biological grandmother. Heihachi had believed that the three of them would live together. Until he found out that Kazumi secretly had a crazy plan to kill him and the rest of the Mishima family.

Heihachi finally found out that his wife had another personality (Devil Gene) that might affect his son (Kazuya) in the future. But Kazumi promised that she would not hurt her family as much as possible. But his intention made him seriously ill. This severe pain turned out to be the process of taking consciousness carried out by his demon.

Heihachi who was prepared for it did not hesitate to kill his beloved wife. When Kazuya (who was still a child at the time) found out that his own father killed his mother, Kazuya’s hatred emerged. Heihachi who felt that his son would make a big problem in the future was forced to make the tough decision to kill him by throwing him off a cliff.

However, the demon blood from his mother’s genes rose up and saved Kazuya’s life at that time. After that incident, this is what made all Tekken events (from the first to the seventh series) happen.

3. Leadership Coup in Tekken 1-2

21 years after the previous two major events, Heihachi announced his first King of Iron Fist tournament. He invited fighters from all over the world to compete for a lucrative prize.

That first King of Iron Fist event was the beginning of the handover of the Mishima company between Heihachi and Kazuya. Kazuya won his first tournament and threw his father off a cliff to avenge him.

Heihachi then avenged his son’s treatment in Tekken 2. With the same tournament, Heihachi again defeated and returned the company leader position from his son. Not only that, Heihachi repeated what he did to little Kazuya so that this time the boy would actually die.

4. An Unappreciated Grandson Comes and Drives Heihachi Crazy

A few years after the tournament, Heihachi received a visit from a teenage boy claiming to be his grandson (Jin Kazama). After the two meet and Jin explains the fate of his mother (Jun Kazama) to his grandfather to convince him, Heihachi finally realizes that Kazuya had an affair with a woman before he killed her in Tekken 2.

After hearing the story, Heihachi agreed to take responsibility for taking care of Jin. Heihachi sent his grandson to his own foundation (Mishima High School). Here, Jin met Ling Xiaoyu, who is also a character in the Tekken game series. The two became good friends and Xiaoyu cared deeply for Jin.

When Heihachi announced the third King of Iron fist tournament (Tekken 3), Jin along with Xiaoyu participated to compete there. Jin, who made it to the finals and defeated his mother’s killer (Ogre), was considered the winner. However, Heihachi tried to kill him at the time, causing Jin’s demon blood to rise up and flee the place.

5. The Conspiracy of Kazuya and G-Corporation, and the Rise of Jinpachi

The absence of Kazuya and Jin gave Heihachi the confidence to announce the fourth edition of his tournament (Tekken 4). But as it turned out, it was his fourth tournament that brought the trio together. Jin and Kazuya reappeared after disappearing in previous events.

To top it off, the three of them fought at the Hon Maru temple. Jin actually almost won the fight. But the memory of his mother made him run away from his grandfather and father.

Unfortunately, after Jin disappeared a group of mysterious troops attacked the place. Apparently, they are Kazuya’s troops who secretly own a company called G-Corporation.

At that time, G-Corporation’s army of Jack robot soldiers detonated a bomb with the intention of killing Heihachi. As it turned out, the bomb explosion actually made the spirit of Jinpachi (who died at the Hon Maru shrine) rise. He then challenged anyone to defeat him in the fifth edition of the tournament.

6. Jin defeated his great-grandfather, but his demon blood is getting stronger and creating chaos around the world

In the fifth edition (Tekken 5), the suddenly resurrected Jinpachi is the one in charge of hosting it. But Jinpachi’s goal here is a noble one, which is simply to be free from the influence of his demon. Whoever can defeat him will make Jinpachi disappear and return to die in peace.

Jin himself was the one who finally defeated him and took over the Mishima Zaibatsu. However, slowly the demonic side of Jin began to take over his mind. At that time, Jin figured out how to remove his curse. Namely by resurrecting a demon named Azazel. But to resurrect him, Jin must create chaos in the world of the demon’s efforts to rise, this is where the Tekken 6 story begins.

Jin himself eventually managed to resurrect Azazel and defeat him. However, Jin fainted and was believed to have died after defeating Azazel. Heihachi, who was still alive, then took back his position as leader of the Mishima Zaibatsu.

7. The End of Heihachi and Kazuya’s Feud?

After taking back the Mishima Zaibatsu, Heihachi launched various attacks on Kazuya’s G-Corporation and made their conflict even more heated. Not only is the conflict hot, but the final resolution of the two also takes place in a volcano that is about to erupt.

The final battle of the two ended with Kazuya being the winner. When Kazuya was about to throw Heihachi’s body (again). Someone named Akuma came to fight with Kazuya. The two fought quite fiercely. But the result of the fight was not told until the end of Tekken 7. Who do you think won the fight?

That was a flashback of the history of the Mishima family conflict in the Tekken game series. It’s long enough that we don’t think we can pack the story any shorter. Even so, hopefully our explanation is easy for you to understand.
