One of the things that was quite surprising for Resident Evil: Village is the position of Chris Redfield as a character involved in it. As we know, Chris has now moved independently and is no longer with BSAA. However, he is still working on his mission while moving with BSAA, which is to protect Ethan.
In this article, we will explore the status of Chris Redfield in RE :The Village. Where does this character stand to the possibility of what Capcom will do in the next series. Without further ado, let’s get right to it.
Chris forms his own team to protect Ethan from Miranda

Throughout the game, we who play Ethan seem to see Chris as an antagonist. Especially in the beginning, he and his team stormed Ethan’s house and killed Mia and took her child.
But near the ending, we finally find out that Chris is not actually on the antagonist side. His purpose in storming Ethan’s house at that time was to kill Miranda, who was disguised as Mia.
How did Chris know that Miranda was disguised as Mia? It’s because he and his team had investigated Miranda’s movements before the Resident: Village event began. They already had the data of Miranda, who had the ability to transform into a person perfectly.
Not Only Protecting, But Also Investigating the BSAA

When we start playing as Chris at the end of the game, we finally find out what his true purpose is. Starting from what his reasons are for moving alone and how he can have a team that is quite loyal throughout the game RE: Village.
Firstly, Chris had already been involved in severe friction with some BSAA officials. This is what led to his membership status being suspended. Remember when Chris helped the Blue Umbrella soldiers in Resident Evil 7? It turns out that was the trigger for the friction. If we go further, it was the death of Piers Nivans in Resident Evil 6 that made Chris question the BSAA’s vision and mission.
Secondly, Chris had smelled a bad sign from the organization. So in addition to carrying out the mission of killing Miranda, he and his team also while investigating BSAA’s involvement directly. And sure enough, Chris’s suspicions were almost proven if it turned out that BSAA had B.O.W soldiers who they plunged into the Resident Evil event: Village.
Chris had also been disappointed with the BSAA when he had to become the BSAA representative in the Blue Umbrella organization. For him, Blue Umbrella is still Umbrella, even though the formation of the organization was to erase Umbrella’s old sins. Therefore, in Resident Evil: Village, he finally made a personal move to investigate the BSAA’s faults that he never knew before.
So, what is the status of Chris Redfield’s character in the RE:Village?

With all that summarized, which side does Chris Redfield stand on? Is he the protagonist, or the antagonist of the game? Well. We’re not entirely sure, but we have a feeling that Chris Redfield is the antihero character in the game.
Indeed, Chris still has good intentions to protect Ethan and Mia’s family. However, Chris also has his own mission with his team, which is to investigate BSAA. And the way he conducts the investigation is to prove his suspicions of BSAA’s actions that he considers to be deviant. His investigation is also much more brutal now that he doesn’t have the name of any organization behind him.
That was a little explanation about Chris who underwent a character change in Resident Evil: Village. What do you think of this character?
