Before discussing Silent Hill f, it is important to note that this article contains many spoilers. If you have not completed the game, reading the ending of Silent Hill f may spoil the story. Read at your own risk!
Silent Hill f tells the story of the social pressures experienced by Japanese women in the 1960s, especially in fulfilling their roles as obedient wives, even if it meant sacrificing their personal dreams. Although set in the 1960s, this theme is still relevant throughout the world today, making Hinako’s story important for the present and the future.
Silent Hill puts pressure on Hinako in three main ways. First, Hinako feels pressured because she wants to start her own life, while the world expects her to become a wife.
Second, the marriage was deliberately arranged to pay off her father’s debts, so she faced social pressure and the impact on her parents’ lives. Third, the situation became more complicated, although this has not yet been explained.
Hinako was promised happiness as a wife, but that role sacrificed her personal freedom. The Fox Mask could protect and help her, but expected Hinako’s obedience in return.
The developers chose the fox as the spirit of the god, inspired by Japanese folklore about kitsune, which can act as either a trickster or a guardian god, depending on the story. So, what endings can you get for completing the game Silent Hill f?
What is the ending of Silent Hill f?
1. Normal Ending Silent Hill f

In “Coming Home To Roost,” it is revealed that the events in Silent Hill were the result of Hinako’s psychotic episode, which occurred after she refused to get married. As a result, she killed her parents and two other people during her wedding ceremony.
Shu had malicious intent when he gave Hinako the Red Capsule, not to relieve her headache, but to make her dependent on it. His goal was to destroy Hinako’s engagement before she took her place as his wife, without expecting that a murder would occur.
This is why you can only unlock the other ending by not taking the Red Capsule, because if you take it, Hinako will be trapped in her addiction and fall under Shu’s control.
2. Bad Ending Silent Hill f

In ‘Fox’s Wedding’, the truth about the Red Capsule is revealed, and Hinako, resigned to her fate, marries the Fox Mask. She pays the price by destroying her true self through Agura no Hotei-sama. At the end of the story, the remnants of Hinako’s true self, in the form of a severed face, lie on the ground, begging for freedom before finally disappearing completely.
The ending of “Coming Home To Roost” is considered bad because Hinako gives up her own freedom and destroys part of herself to become the Fox Mask’s wife, turning herself into a puppet who only obeys his wishes.
3. Good Ending Silent Hill f

The ending of “The Fox Wets Its Tail” brings happiness to Hinako and Shu. Hinako finally stands up for herself and chooses freedom by leaving the Fox Mask behind, free from the influence of the Red Capsule.
The sacred fox protects Ebisugaoka from the volcano, but the village will surely be destroyed even though the fate of its residents remains unclear.
Hinako feels sad after escaping her marriage and now lives with Shu, the man who once manipulated her and could potentially do so again, especially after his attempt to get her partner addicted to drugs.
4. True Ending Silent Hill f

Ebisugaoka in Silence reveals the truth about the sacred marriage, in which the Fox Mask, whose real name is Kotoyuki, is trapped just like Hinako. He is possessed by his ancestors who want to continue the marriage cycle by threatening Ebisugaoka’s existence.
At the end of the story, Hinako splits into Hinako the Fox and Hinako the Human. They make peace before freeing Kotoyuki, and all three are freed from the curse. Hinako the Human must decide her future, while Hinako the Fox contemplates her relationship with Kotoyuki.
This is the true ending of Silent Hill f, where Hinako gains her freedom without hurting others or herself. The Fox Clan and Ebisugaoka are freed from the curse of marriage, allowing both to flourish.
Kotoyuki’s letter to Hinako shows that he is finally living his own life. The only one who might be sad is Shu, but he deserves the consequences.
