Alien: Romulus Unseats Deadpool & Wolverine to Top Box Office

After three weeks at the top of the Box Office, Deadpool & Wolverine had to drop as it was unseated by the movie Alien: Romulus.

The movie Alien: Romulus managed to top the North American box office, beating Deadpool & Wolverine. Since its first week in theaters, the film has collected US$41.5 million, which is equivalent to Rp646 billion.

According to a report from Variety, this achievement managed to unseat Deadpool & Wolverine, which previously topped the box office rankings for three consecutive weeks.

Currently, Deadpool & Wolverine is in second place. They have US$29 million in revenue after a decline of about 46 percent from the previous week. The movie It Ends With Us took third place with US$24 million, then there was Twisters which earned US$9.8 million.

The latest installment of Alien: Romulus marks the latest achievement for the Alien franchise after decades of endurance. The movie took the second-highest position in terms of first-week box office for the franchise.

In addition, Alien: Romulus also recorded impressive numbers from international screenings, earning US$66.7 million.

Thus, the total box office revenue of Alien: Romulus in its first week of screening has reached US$108.2 million. This amount also exceeds the film’s production cost of US$80 million. The potential box office revenue of Alien: Romulus is still very big to increase, considering that the movie has only been released for one week in America.

Alien: Romulus is directed by Fede Alvarez, while the script is by Rodo Sayagues. Alvarez is the latest director to join the ranks of acclaimed filmmakers who have worked on films in the Alien franchise, including Ridley Scott, James Cameron, and David Fincher.

The director has been widely recognized for his work in several horror films, including Evil Dead (2013), Don’t Breathe (2016), and as a writer for Don’t Breathe 2 (2021). The movie Alien: Romulus is also enlivened by the latest crop of young actors taking over the roles of the franchise’s legends.

Cailee Spaeny has been cast as the lead and will be joined by David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu. The movie Alien: Romulus still tells the story of Xenomorph and Facehugger as enemies of humanity.
