Amazon has announced that it will be creating a live action Tomb Raider series that Phoebe Waller-Bridge will produce. The series will air on streaming platform Prime Video.
Looking to cast Lara Croft for the Live Action Tomb Raider series
Jen Salke, Head of Amazon & MGM Studios, announced the news at the Upfront event in New York in the morning. Jen Salke mentioned that the series will be epic and will explore a vast world. He also gave the audience information on finding the cast of Lara Croft.
“Phoebe has a lifelong love affair with Lara Croft and soon we will begin the search for who will play this iconic character and I can’t wait.”
From what she has revealed, we can confirm that it is not Waller-Bridge who will play the role of Lara Croft in the live action Tomb Raider movie, as previously rumored.
In a press release, Waller-Bridge also stepped in to confirm the truth of the news.
“Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I’m so honored to bring it to television with such passionate colleagues. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as it does to a lot of people, and I can’t wait to start this adventure.”
The iconic Lara Croft
There’s no denying that Lara Croft is an iconic character. Lara Croft has appeared in many forms of media besides video games, including movies, comic books, novels, and animations.
Angelina Jolie played the role in the first film adaptations (2001 and 2003), and then Alicia Vikander (2018).
Several actresses have also provided voices for the character of Lara Croft in various games, such as Shelley Blond, Judith Gibbins, Jonell Elliott, Keeley Hawes, and Camilla Luddington.
Meanwhile, Hayley Atwell provided the voice for Lara in her animated series on Netflix. We’ll see how the next live action Tomb Raider series turns out.
