Avatar: The Way of Water is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes

It looks like critics are loving Avatar The Way of Water directed by James Cameron. This is because the sequel has been certified fresh by film aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.

At the time of writing, Avatar The Way of Water has been reviewed by 190 critics with a total score of 82%. The score is actually the same as the first Avatar film, which was released in 2009. But the difference is that the film has been reviewed by 333 critics. While the sequel The Way of Water has only been reviewed by 190 critics.

All these positive reviews were directed towards the visuals, the emotional scenes, the characters, and also the director. With these good reviews, Avatar: The Way of Water is expected to gross $525 million in its first week of release. $175 million from North America and the remaining $350 million from international markets.

Regardless of the predicted box office earnings, James Cameron has made a statement saying that Avatar The Way of Water will need to be the “third or fourth highest grossing film of all time” to recoup its $400 million production budget.

Apart from getting a fresh certification from Rotten Tomatoes, Avatar: The Way of Water was also nominated for Best Picture – Drama at the 80th Golden Globes. Avatar will compete with other strong candidates such as Top Gun: Maverick, Elvis, The Fabelmans and Tár.

James Cameron was also nominated for the Best Director- Motion Pictures category. The first film Avatar (2009) also entered both categories and won at the 67th Golden Globe Awards in 2010.

Set more than a decade after the first Avatar movie. The Way of Water sequel will tell the story of Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) who leave Pandora while raising their 5 children.

Sigourney Weaver, who originally appeared in the first film as Dr. Grace will play the role of Kiri who is the adopted daughter of Sully and Neytiri. Meanwhile, the other 4 children will be played by Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss and Jack Champion.

The Way of Water also strarring Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Brendan Cowell.
