A film adaptation of the Call of Duty video game may soon be in the works. The first game in the franchise was released in 2003 and was set during World War II. However, the 2007 release of Modern Warfare brought the story into a more contemporary setting.
Over time, the series has undergone significant development with more than 20 titles released.
Previously, there had been a major effort to adapt the Call of Duty game. In 2015, Activision Blizzard Studios announced its intention to build a cinematic universe based on the franchise.
The project was initially planned to feature Stefano Sollima (Sicario: Day of the Soldado) as director, with the possibility of involving famous actors such as Tom Hardy and Chris Pine. Unfortunately, the plan did not materialize.
Latest News on Efforts to Turn Call of Duty into a Movie

In the latest development on What I’m Hearing, Puck journalist Matthew Belloni reports that following the merger between Skydance Media and Paramount Global, Paramount is now considering acquiring the film rights to the Call of Duty franchise.
Belloni emphasized that this project is a “priority” for Paramount’s new owner, David Ellison, along with studio executives Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg.
Phil Spencer, who serves as CEO of Microsoft Gaming, once spoke about the potential for adaptation for Call of Duty.
He revealed, “The video game industry has achieved success on its own. Not all franchises need to have a movie or series version. However, if there is a creative team that has a unique perspective and partners who truly understand the essence of this franchise, then an adaptation can be something special.”
This statement sends a positive signal that the film project will be managed seriously.
To date, there has been no official information about the storyline that will be presented in the film. The question is whether the film will take inspiration from one of the famous series such as Modern Warfare or Black Ops, or perhaps offer a completely original new story.
Nevertheless, with the many iconic characters and rich history in this franchise, Paramount has plenty of resources to create an extraordinary action movie.
