The latest news from DC Studios is that director Luca Guadagnino and actor Daniel Craig will be working together again, this time for a DCU film project in the DC Universe. According to information from Deadline, they will collaborate on a film adaptation of Sgt. Rock under DC Studios.
Reportedly, this project will be Guadagnino’s next film before he works on the American Psycho reboot with Lionsgate.
1. Daniel Craig will be Sgt. Rock in DCU
You might not be too familiar with the DC character Sgt. Rock. He first appeared in the late 1950s as a hero during World War II. However, over time, the character has also appeared in a more modern context, interacting with the likes of Batman and the Suicide Squad.
Sgt. Rock is one of the legendary characters from DC by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert. This character first appeared in 1959 in the comic Our Army at War. Set in World War II, Sgt. Franklin John Rock is an infantryman with extraordinary abilities.
He was famous as a sniper who could shoot down German planes using only a submachine gun. In addition, he is also an excellent street fighter and possesses the ability “Combat Antenna,” which gives him a unique instinct to detect enemy attacks. With courage, intelligence, and a big heart, Sgt. Rock has become one of the most respected military characters in the DC comics world.
Now, Sgt. Rock will step onto the big screen and will most likely join James Gunn’s DC Universe. Daniel “007” Craig is reportedly in talks to play the role.
Until now, there has been no official announcement regarding the storyline or the comic that will be the basis for this adaptation. However, the presence of Justin Kuritzkes, the screenwriter of Challengers and Queer, gives hope that Sgt. Rock’s story will be deeper and more emotional.
The movie will probably be one of the main projects in the Gods and Monsters phase of the DC Universe, alongside Superman: Legacy, Supergirl, and the Creature Commandos animated series that will air on Max on December 5.
2. DCU Projects with Great Potential
Involving big names like Luca Guadagnino and Daniel Craig, as well as iconic characters like Sgt. Rock, this project has the potential to be one of DC’s most anticipated adaptations.
Fans of comics and superhero movies will want to know how DC Studios will bring this brave soldier to the movies. If all goes well, Sgt. Rock could be one of the milestones in the new chapter of the DC Universe.
Guadagnino’s recent successes with his films Queer and Challengers have also caught the attention of many. Queer, based on the novel by William S. Burroughs, received a positive response at the Venice Film Festival and a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Meanwhile, Challengers, starring Zendaya, managed to record a global box office revenue of almost $100 million. With Guadagnino’s experience in creating emotional and character-rich stories, he promises something new for the Sgt. Rock adaptation.
