The release date for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow was DC announced after the selection of the main cast. Milly Alcock, best known for her role in the first season of House of the Dragon, has officially been cast to play the character of Supergirl.

The first announcement about this movie James Gunn and Peter Safran made in January 2023. After that, the project brought in Ana Nogueira (The Vampire Diaries) as writer and Craig Gillespie (Cruella) as director.

In January 2024, DC’s selection of Alcock was announced, and Gunn confirmed that she was his first choice for the role after seeing her perform in the first season of House of the Dragon.

Gunn revealed on social media that Milly was the first person he mentioned to Peter Safran for the role over a year ago when he was just reading the comics.

There are suggestions that Milly Alcock will make her debut as Supergirl in a Superman movie or other DCU project, possibly in a DCU series before her appearance in her own movie. The movie is inspired by the comic book of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.
