DCU’s Wonder Woman Officially Enters Development Stage

The latest news is that Gunn has confirmed that the DCU version of Wonder Woman is in development.

According to a report by Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn has announced that the Wonder Woman DCU movie has now officially entered the development stage.

The previous Wonder Woman managed to capture the attention of many viewers when she first appeared in the DCEU. However, the sequel, titled Wonder Woman 1984, received mixed responses.

In addition, Gal Gadot ‘s Wonder Woman character was also featured in the Justice League movie and appeared in several other DC movies, including a cameo in Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Wonder Woman’s existence became quite a hot topic of conversation when James Gunn took over the leadership of DC Studios as CEO in 2022.

Once Gunn and Peter Safran took office, several projects involving DC characters were canceled. Entire plans underwent major changes, including one that was affected was the development of Wonder Woman 3.

This latest news gives us hope after Wonder Woman’s journey has had its ups and downs on the movie screen in recent years.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn revealed that they are working on the Wonder Woman project with patience and certainty.

“[Wonder Woman] is slow, but it’s moving. We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is being written right now,” James Gunn told EW.

In his interview, Gunn also revealed that the new Wonder Woman movie will stand alone, separate from Max’s Paradise Lost HBO series.

The series will dive into life in Themyscira, the home of the Amazons, and according to Gunn, will have a similar atmosphere to Game of Thrones. As for the Wonder Woman movie, there are no official details on who will write the script or direct the movie.

Considering how famous Wonder Woman is and her position as part of DC’s iconic trinity that includes Superman and Batman, the release of this latest movie is definitely a smart move to reignite fans’ enthusiasm.

“Right now, there are four characters that we consider to be very significant: Superman, Batman, Supergirl, and Wonder Woman. I’m not saying that only they are relevant, but their existence is crucial in our long-term plans. Right now, I feel positive about two of them and am in the development stage for the other two.”

Unfortunately, there is no word on the release date of the movie, nor who will take on the role of Wonder Woman in the new version. Most likely, Gal Gadot, who previously wore the superhero costume, will be replaced, similar to the fate of Henry Cavill who played Superman and Ben Affleck who played Batman.
