Adam Wingard, director of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, has dropped a hint about Godzilla’s next enemy, Destoroyah.
Currently, Adam Wingard’s name is on the rise after the success of the recently released movie The New Empire.
Godzilla to Fight Destoroyah in Next Movie?
The Godzilla x Kong director expressed his fondness for the Godzilla vs Destoroyah movie in his interview with Discussing Film.
The movie, released in 1995, featured Godzilla having to fight one of the scariest monsters in the Toho universe .He hopes to present another movie that has the same level of emotion as the movie if he gets the chance.
“I will say this, one of my favorite Godzilla movies is Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. The reason it’s one of my favorites is because I don’t think there’s another Godzilla movie, maybe other than Minus One and the 1954 original, that can deliver on the emotional side. At the end of the movie, when Godzilla Jr. dies and then Godzilla melts to death, it’s very sad and also beautiful in the way they did it. The first time I saw it, it made me cry. And part of that is thanks to the amazing music by Akira Ifukube that accompanied the scene.
It’s crazy because if you look at it and it’s an amazing version of the actor in the Godzilla costume. I would say that’s probably the pinnacle of the story (of the Godzilla franchise) because I don’t think I could possibly match that quality and also present Godzilla through an actor in a costume. But that’s something for me, if I’m going to do another movie, you want to bring that same emotional side to Godzilla as a character at that point.”
Currently, there is no official confirmation from Legendary Pictures on whether they will be making another Godzilla movie.
However, given the success of The New Empire, it is possible that we will see Godzilla back in action. However, this could also be the last movie for Godzilla, with Destoroyah possibly being the next enemy we have to look forward to.
