After waiting for a long time, there is finally a new update regarding the Highlander movie reboot that will feature Henry Cavill. This update comes from director Chad Stahelski, who we previously knew through the John Wick franchise.
In his interview with TheDirect, he shared some new details about the storyline and shooting schedule. The main production of the movie is planned to start in the spring of 2025.
1. Update on Henry Cavill Role in Highlander Reboot
In a recent interview with TheDirect, Stahelski revealed his interesting take on the movie’s new direction. “We’re traveling from the early 1500s in the highlands to the future of New York and Hong Kong,” he explains. “It’s not just action, but there’s also an element of romance, though not in the way you’d normally imagine.”
Stahelski also revealed the reason why the main character was so appealing to Henry Cavill. “The gist of my conversation with Henry was, look, you’re playing someone who has lived more than 500 years. He’s the last person in the world who wants to be stuck in this situation. You will have the opportunity to explore the character’s vast journey. Also, he has learned various martial arts over the centuries,” she said.
The movie is not just about action, but also exploring the emotional side of Connor MacLeod’s character. Stahelski said, “There are a lot of opportunities to create deeper characters. From my experience in John Wick, I learned how to slightly modify the storytelling to build a new mythos.”
2. Potentially a Big Project
Highlander tells the story of Connor MacLeod, a warrior from the Scottish highlands in the 16th century who has the ability to live forever, unless his head is cut off.
Connor isn’t the only one like that, as many other “immortals” are scattered around the world. They are often involved in battles throughout history, so Highlander stories are filled with epic action and conflict.
With production set to begin next year, the Highlander reboot has the potential to be a major project that can revive the charm of the classic film. Fans are now waiting to see how the story will be reinterpreted with a modern twist.
For Henry Cavill, a role in Highlander is a significant milestone in his list of iconic roles. Having found success as Superman in the DCEU and Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, Cavill has further cemented his place as a trusted action star.
With director Stahelski known for his incredible fight choreography, the movie is expected to deliver a combination of deep narrative and breathtaking action.
