The remake of Highlander starring Henry Cavill will start filming next year. The movie is directed by Chad Stahelski.

The latest news about the Highlander movie remake that fans have been waiting for has emerged. Henry Cavill will officially star in the lead role in the Highlander remake, which is scheduled to begin filming in early 2025.

Chad Stahelski, the director behind the successful John Wick series, will be directing this latest version of Highlander.

Chad Stahelski ‘s decision to direct the new Highlander remake film project has raised curiosity among fans about what the movie will be like. The Highlander franchise itself has always been a very complex movie project.

Although the movie was not a box office success, the home edition version of the movie became a huge success. However, the 2007 remake, Highlander: The Source, repeated the same failure.

In an interview with Collider, Chad Stahelski revealed that they will start shooting in January 2025 in Scotland.

“We started filming in January in Scotland. That’s why I left immediately after finishing here. I left for Scotland on Monday for a final location check,” said Chad Stahelski, as quoted by Yoursay on Monday (1/7/2024).

The news of Stahelski directing the Highlander remake project has been well received by fans. With his successful reputation with the John Wick movies, the hope is that this new Highlander movie can surpass the previous version.

According to the information available, Stahelski will give a new twist to the existing storyline. The hope is that this will give the franchise something fresh to attract new audiences.

Not only did he provide an update on the filming, Stahelski also expressed his views on the major differences between this film project and the John Wick films.

A New Challenge for Stahelski

Stahelski faced a new challenge in creating an incredible sword fight. He was also determined to ensure the safety of the entire cast and crew who were on the set of the project.

“I think using a sword in a fight scene is one of the most difficult things to do. If I make a mistake with a firearm, the flash of the barrel can be digitally edited, so we don’t have to worry about hurting anyone. When we were shooting the car scenes, that was also a big concern,” Chad Stahelski told Yoursay.

He also added, “But now there is a way of using wires which reduces the risk for the actors… The use of swords is a little more complicated because now I have to trust that the actors can swing these pieces of metal at each other without hurting an eye or stabbing someone.

“In every movie with sword scenes, someone is bound to get hit or hit on the head or other parts. It requires more skill and dedication. So, that’s always a major concern for me,” he concludes.

Chad Stahelski expressed his concern that too long sword-fighting scenes could make the audience feel bored.

According to him, it was important to strike the right balance between the sword-fighting scenes and other elements of the movie production.

He was thinking of ways to match the sword-fighting scenes with firearms action, martial arts, and car chases, and how to combine all these elements into a cohesive and compelling storyline.

Currently, the release date of the Highlander reboot is still unannounced, but it is expected to air in 2026.
