As April draws to a close, various new Indonesian films are set to hit theaters during the month of May 2024. Just like the previous months, the horror genre still dominates the Indonesian film industry.

According to IDN Times, here are some of the latest Indonesian movies that will hit theaters in May 2024.

1. Vina: Sebelum 7 Hari

The 100-minute film directed by Anggy Umbara will air on May 8, 2024.

It started when Vina’s body was found on an overpass in Cirebon, initially thought to have died in a motorcycle accident alone.

But the grandmother felt something was wrong as Vina’s body seemed strangely mangled, although she didn’t have enough evidence to dispute the accident report.

After her death, Vina’s soul takes over the body of her close friend, Linda. She was given a period of one week to unlock the bitter secret that came with it.

2. Possession : Kerasukan

The next new Indonesian movie to hit theaters is “Posession: Kerasukan”. This horror film will hit theaters on May 8, 2024, is an adaptation of a French film.

Posession: Kerasukan is the latest horror film by Razka Robby Ertanto with Darius Sinathrya, Carissa Perusset, and Sara Fajira as the lead actors.

It tells the story of Faris, who after returning from a long military stint, is surprised by a divorce request from his wife, Ratna.

He then suspected that Ratna might be involved with another man because of her strange behavior. Faris is then determined to uncover the truth, including the possibility of infidelity.

However, the reality that unfolds could be more shocking and worse than what he had anticipated.

3. Do You See What I See: Horror Story Episode #64 “First Love”

Shenina Cinnamon returns to acting in the horror film industry through “Do You See What I See: Horror Story Episode #64 ‘First Love'” after an absence of 5 years.

One of the latest horror films based on a podcast, it tells the story of a romance between a boarder and a pocong who looks like a human. This production from MD Pictures will air on May 16, 2024 in theaters.

4. Lord, Let Me Sin

Next up is the latest movie produced by MVP titled God, Let Me Sin. Kiran (Aghniny Haque), is a college student who is eager to dedicate herself to the service of God.

In his life, he often preached and practiced the principles of Islamic law in various aspects of his life.

Kiran often feels guilty when her father, who is terminally ill and retired, gives her money, especially since her mother does not work and earns no income.

An event changes the course of Kiran’s life, forcing him to resort to various means to survive.

Can Kiran stick to the right principles and values in life? Or will Kiran take the alternative path and turn away from Him?

Hanung Bramantyo’s latest film will hit theaters on May 22, 2024.

5. Malam Pencabut Nyawa

After the success of Perempuan Tanah Jahanam in 2019, BASE Entertainment will soon release their second horror film titled Malam Pencabut Nyawa.

With Devano Danendra and Keisya Levronka in the lead roles, this new Indonesian movie is scheduled to premiere on May 22.

The movie revolves around a teenager with the unique ability to visit the supernatural world through dreams.

6. Temurun

Then at the end of May, there is an Indonesian horror movie called Temurun. The movie “Temurun” tells the story of Dewi and Sena’s journey of losing their parents.

Not only do they have to cope with grief, but they also have to deal with mysterious events and supernatural terrors that arise, allegedly as part of their ancestral heritage.

Despite Dewi and Sena’s lack of interest in their inheritance, they tried to accept it and adapt to their new lives.

However, it remains to be seen if they can overcome the secrets that surround a family legacy that has changed hands for generations.

The film will hit theaters on May 30, 2024.
