1. Adaptation of a Novel
Kittiwirayanont adapted the story’s popularity into a novel published in 2017 under the title Tee Yod… Wild Groan.
The title of the novel comes from the strange sounds heard during the mystical terror. In this work, Kittiwirayanont uses the pseudonym Kritanon and is published by Praew Publishing House.
After its release as a novel, the story went viral again and was even featured on a radio program, The Ghost Radio, in July 2023. The novel also caught the attention of Channel 3 and M STUDIO to be made into a movie.
2. Famous Legend
Death Wishperer was inspired by a legend that appeared on an online forum in May 2015. The legend was told by a user by the name of Kittisak Kittiwirayanont and titled Ghost Fever… Let’s Hear My Secrets.
The infamous Kittiwirayanont story, which took place in 1972, the author acknowledges as a story he heard from his mother and believes it really happened. The story went viral on the internet and created a sensation in Thailand.
The comments reached more than 2,000 and have been shared 130,000 times on the online forum.
This story tells of a family in Kanchanaburi Province who experienced supernatural events when their daughter fell ill in 1972. One of the mystical phenomena that occurred was the sound of a woman’s voice saying “tee yod”.
3. Meaning of Tee Yod
The title of the story, novel, and movie, “tee yod,” comes from a mysterious sound that occurred during an incident in the family in 1972. According to Sanook, the term “tee yod” does not actually have a specific meaning. However, it is said that “tee yod” refers to the mysterious sound heard at the time of the incident.
However, there are some people who claim that the phrase comes from the ancient language Mo which means “Om” or “speech used to recite spells”.
However, this view of the Mo language has been refuted by some linguists. They argue that the term “tee yod” is not found in the Mo language.
4. Most Successful Thai Movies
Tee Yod’s movie was produced with a budget of 20 million baht. Nonetheless, the movie managed to be incredibly profitable, earning 25 times its production costs, reaching 500 million baht nationwide.
In Bangkok, the metropolitan area, and Chiang Mai, Death Whisperer earned 197.5 million baht.
With this achievement, Sanook stated that Death Whisperer became the fourth most successful Thai film in history, after Pee Mak (2013), I Fine..Thank You..Love You (2014), and The Legend of Suriyothai (2001).
5. There Could Be a Sequel
In an interview with Channel 3, director Taweewat Wantha revealed that the possibility of making a sequel to Death Whisperer is very high.
However, until now there has been no certainty or further information regarding the continuation of the Ghost Whisperer sequel.
