James Gunn has finally commented on the future of the Justice League in the DCU. While there has been no official announcement regarding “Gods and Monsters,” the first phase of the DC Universe (DCU), the Superman director confirmed that the existence of this iconic superhero team is part of his long-term plans.
Early projects in the DCU such as Superman, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and series like Lanterns and Paradise Lost are James Gunn’s main concerns at the moment. However, as time went on, it became clear that this universe was designed to introduce one character after another who would eventually come together.
Justice League will not appear directly in Superman DCU

In the upcoming Superman movie, audiences will not immediately see the existence of the Justice League. Instead, viewers will witness a new group of heroes called the Justice Gang.
The group includes some characters that DC fans are already familiar with, such as Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Guy Gardner who we know as Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi).
Despite their good intentions, the group operates under the leadership of Maxwell Lord played by Sean Gunn and his technology company, LordTech.
Gunn explained that the Justice Gang is the first representation of superhero team interactions in this new universe. “They’re good, but they’re not angels,” Gunn said.
This means that the heroes in the DCU will be shown with a more human side-having much more complicated and realistic moral values.
So, where is the Justice League? Take it easy. Gunn has indicated that Justice League is coming to the DCU but not anytime soon.
“Definitely, I agree,” Gunn said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “However, right now we don’t see the Justice League coming into this world… yet.” Gunn’s statement seems to signal that the DCU is planning the formation of a large superhero team like the Justice League, albeit far into the future.
David Corenswet, the newest cast member of Superman, gives his views on his potential involvement in Justice League in the future.
“It sounds very interesting. Personally, I don’t want to get too ahead of myself. I’d rather wait to see what James has to say and enjoy every surprise. If it turns out that Justice League is in his plans, I’ll certainly think about it too, and we’ll see how it develops.”
The DCU is still in its infancy, but the foundation Gunn has built looks promising. Will we see a new Justice League in the next few years? Most likely yes. Therefore, be prepared and keep up with the development of this new DC universe only at Dafunda.
