You can be sure that this new DC franchise will be a success after watching the teaser trailer for James Gunn’s Superman DCU. The superhero reboot that fans have been waiting for released its first trailer on Thursday (19/12/2024), showing glimpses of David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Superman’s love interest.
In addition, Nicholas Hoult was cast as the villainous Lex Luthor. The actor replaces the iconic role that previously belonged to Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, and Jesse Eisenberg.
In addition to Warner Bros and DC, in his social media posts, James Gunn also released the latest and first trailer for his Superman film in the DC Universe (DCU).
1. James Gunn’s Superman DCU Teaser Trailer
At the beginning of his latest movie trailer, Superman appears in a very sad state. His body is covered in blood and bruises, lying in a frozen landscape. His breathing sounded labored, as if he was having trouble breathing, or perhaps there were some broken ribs.
Furthermore, there is an apparent hope – through his loyal friend, Krypto. “Take me home,” Superman says to his dog. This is one of two lines spoken in the movie – the other is spoken by a young boy, blindfolded and holding a homemade flag, whispering “Superman, Superman” wistfully.
This sentence reflects the hope that writer and director James Gunn wants to convey in his latest film.
2. The First Movie of the DC Universe (DCU)
Superman was the first film released as part of the reboot of the DC franchise, which is now the DC Universe (DCU). James Gunn, who wrote and directed the film, serves as co-CEO of DC Studios. He, along with Peter Safran, is responsible for the production of all upcoming films and TV shows from the studio, including the latest animated series, Creature Commandos.
From the initial marketing looks, Superman seems to take a lighter approach than previous representations of the character.
At the trailer launch event for media on Monday at Warner Bros.’ Burbank location, Gunn was asked about how he incorporated the good values that Superman can represent for America and the world into the film.
“I think that’s what ‘Take me home’ is about,” Gunn said. “In the beginning, we did have a rather bleak view of Superman, and I think that reflects the state of our country. I believe in human kindness, and I believe that the vast majority of people in this country. Regardless of their ideological or political beliefs, are trying their best to survive and trying to be good people. Even though it might look different to the other side, whatever it is,” Gunn continued.
There are a lot of expectations resting on Superman, which will release on July 11 as the first solo film for the character since Man of Steel in 2013. The movie is a major asset for DC Studios heads Gunn and Peter Safran, who have been planning the entire TV and movie universe after Warner Bros. CEO appointed them with the task of overhauling DC.
As such, the team has made every effort to build enthusiasm, including holding an initial session with the media that was also attended by stars such as David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
