James Gunn recently confirmed that he has had direct discussions with Henry Cavill regarding the possibility of Cavill joining the DCU, although not in the role of Clark Kent. In other words, even though Henry Cavill is no longer playing Superman, it doesn’t mean that his career in the DCU universe is over.
The success of James Gunn’s Superman movie helped cement the position for well-known actors, including Henry Cavill, to return to the role.
After earning more than $400 million globally and receiving rave reviews from audiences, the latest version of the DCU is now showing much more stability than the last uncertain days of the DCEU.
James Gunn wants Henry Cavill to join the DCU

In an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn revealed that the conversation took place right on the day he officially signed a contract to lead DC Studios alongside Peter Safran.
At the same time, the public was excited by the news of Cavill’s return as Superman in the post-credit scene of Black Adam. However, Gunn actually had a different plan. Together with Safran, he has set a new direction for the DCU, starting with a younger version of Superman.
Gunn revealed that the situation was very confusing and felt unfair to Cavill. He said, “The day that our contract became official, it was suddenly announced that Henry was coming back. I wondered, ‘What the hell is going on?’ We already had a plan to rebuild the character of Superman from scratch.”
In addition, Gunn added, “We also decided to meet Henry and talk in person. He’s very friendly and a good person.”
Interestingly, on the same day that he broke the news to Cavill, Gunn also offered him a new role in the DCU. “I spoke to him right then and there,” he said. “I really wanted to involve Henry in another project.”
For those of you who are still looking forward to seeing Cavill on screen in a new role, this is very good news.
While the details of Henry Cavill’s role are still unknown, the chances of him returning to the DCU are still very high. Moreover, James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently known to be quite open in integrating old actors into the new world.
For example, Jason Momoa who previously played Aquaman will now start a new chapter by playing Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie.
