Josh Brolin has turned down the offer to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Lanterns series. The role eventually went to Kyle Chandler. Even so, rumors say Josh Brolin got the attention of DC Studios for another role in the DC Universe, namely the supervillain Darkseid.
Digital artist Boss Logic has shared some fanart featuring the actor as DC Comics’ supervillain Darkseid. Given that Brolin has been cast as Thanos in the MCU, it seems like Brolin himself might be on board with the concept.
Interestingly, after Boss Logic posted his work on X, Brolin also shared the image through his Instagram Stories. Of course, this gives a strong indication to confirm the rumors.
1. Josh Brolin Posting Fanart Darkseid
Actor Josh Brolin has once again caught the attention of fans following the news that he is in talks to be involved in a major project at DC Studios. The news got even more horrendous after Josh Brolin shared a fanart from BossLogic depicting him as Darkseid, one of the most famous villains in the DC universe.
Brolin has had considerable experience in the world of comic book movies. Apart from playing Thanos, he has also appeared in films such as Jonah Hex, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (Dwight McCarthy), and Deadpool 2 (Cable).
With such an impressive portfolio list, it’s no surprise that his name is always rumored to be associated with big projects in the DCU.
2. No Official Confirmation
Darkseid was originally going to be the main villain in the DCEU. Zack Snyder had planned to introduce the character in his Justice League sequel. While those plans didn’t materialize, we did get a glimpse of the powerful New God in the director’s cut of the first film.
Darkseid reappeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League film released in 2021, played by Ray Porter. However, plans to present Darkseid in the film New Gods under the direction of director Ava DuVernay were also canceled after the project stopped the same year.
While there are some similarities between Darkseid and Thanos, both characters have evolved into very different beings over time. It is yet to be confirmed whether James Gunn plans to introduce the tyrannical ruler of Apokolips in the DCU in the future.
However, if it does happen, will the role be different enough from Brolin’s portrayal of the Mad Titan in the MCU for fans to accept it?
Remember, while there are some fans who are quick to jump to conclusions, Brolin’s sharing of fanart doesn’t prove anything. While he may be in discussions for another role in the DCU, that doesn’t mean he will be Darkseid.
