After almost five years since the release of the second movie, Jumanji 3 now officially has a release date. Sony Pictures has announced that Jumanji 3 will be released in theaters in 2026. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan will most likely be back in action, along with director Jake Kasdan.
Jumanji is a highly acclaimed action fantasy adventure movie that first aired in 1995. The success of the movie led to a reboot version that was released in 2017, with stars such as Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, and Kevin Hart.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was released in theaters in December 2017 and earned over 950 million dollars at the global box office. The sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level, came out in 2019 and also scored a hit with global revenue exceeding 801 million dollars.
1. Jumanji 3 Release Date
According to Variety, Sony Pictures has officially announced the release date of Jumanji 3, which will be December 11, 2026. This announcement shows that Sony wants to continue the tradition of releasing this family movie during the holiday season.
In a press release, they mentioned that the leads in the previous movie are likely to return to play their characters. However, we still need to wait until an agreement is reached to confirm their return.
Although they have set a release schedule, there is still no word on when the filming of the movie will begin. Many fans are concerned that Sony seems to be rushing the release of this sequel.
However, producer Hiram Garcia has stated that director Jake Kasdan will focus on his project immediately after completing another movie, Red One, which is scheduled to be completed in November.
2. Likely to be the Last Movie
Kevin Hart revealed to Variety in 2023 that Jumanji 3 will be the series finale, while also resolving his character’s relationship with The Rock. “We need something spectacular to close our story, and we don’t want to leave it at that,” he said.
In an interview published online by Virgin Radio in the fall of 2022, Dwayne Johnson expressed his enthusiasm to work on Jumanji 3. “Jake has a very interesting and special idea for Jumanji 3-it could be the finale,” Dwayne Johnson said at the time. “But definitely, it’s very special. I just want to say that.”
