Liam Neeson (Marlow) surprisingly said that basically, he doesn’t like superhero movies. WHAT?

Liam Neeson as we know is a very cool senior actor. His coolness is not only because of his acting skills. But also the versatility he has. That is, he can appear in various movie genres including superheroes.

Well in his entire career, Liam Neeson has appeared in 2 superhero movies. Specifically, Darkman (1990) and Batman Begins (2005).

Liam Neeson and Superhero Movies

In Darkman, Neeson plays the superhero of the movie’s title, Peyton Westlake aka Darkman. Technically, Darkman is more of an antihero than a superhero. But yes, of course you already understand everything, right?

In Batman Begins, he played the classic Batman nemesis, Ra’s al Ghul. And in both roles, the 70-year-old actor gave a stunning performance.

Now when looking at this fact. Many of us certainly assume that Neeson is a fan of the superhero movie genre. Well, unfortunately our assumption has been completely wrong.

Dislikes the Superhero Genre

Yes, although when we read it we are immediately shocked, but that’s what Neeson said recently. He said it during an interview with Rolling Stone.

Here is his full statement regarding what we are discussing.

“To be honest, I’m not a fan of the superhero genre. I only admire it because of all the technology, visual effects, and so on. But for me, most superhero movies have the same story plot (nothing different),” said Neeson.

Why appear in Batman Begins?

Then if so, why did Neeson want to play Ra’s al Ghul in Batman Begins? Well, this is because Batman Begins has elements of film noir drama.

Which is Neeson’s favorite genre or film with that element. Neeson himself has appeared several times in films with the noir genre. One of his latest is the new one released on February 15, 2023, Marlowe.

And that reasoning makes perfect sense. But still, Neeson’s statement surprised us all. Now what do you think about Neeson’s statement?
