After obtaining the license, Lionsgate is ready to produce the Monopoly movie!
Monopoly, the world-famous board game, is officially part of the Lionsgate studio after the acquisition of Canadian entertainment company Entertainment One or eOne was completed.
Based on reports, Lionsgate has reportedly acquired Entertainment One for USD 375 million through a production loan.
The acquisition gives Lionsgate access to Entertainment One’s media library of 6,500 movies and shows. The exciting thing is that Lionsgate has the opportunity to work on the next Monopoly movie project.
“This sale is entirely in line with our strategy, and we are very pleased to complete the closing process successfully. Lionsgate’s management team is highly experienced in entertainment and very adept at delivering value, and we are delighted to have found a good home for our eOne TV and movie business. We look forward to partnering with them soon, especially on the Monopoly adaptation.” said Chris Cocks, CEO of Hasbro, in a previous press release.
Monopoly movie plan has been a long time coming
Monopoly has been planned to get a movie adaptation since several years ago. The announcement of this project has been made since 2015 and some information mentioned that Tim Story and Ridley Scott were appointed as directors.
Kevin Hart is also rumored to be playing the lead role in the film. However, until now, there have been no recent developments regarding the movie project.
After Hasbro sold their entertainment and multimedia company to Lionsgate, many hoped that this project would be realized soon.
