Marvel Officially Appoints X-Men MCU Director, Ready for 2028

Finally Marvel Studios has officially appointed a director for the X-Men MCU film, which will be one of the projects in phase seven.

According to Variety, Marvel Studios has officially announced the director for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) X-Men reboot film. This announcement is included in the latest report on Marvel’s upcoming projects, of which there are four films that will be released in 2028.

The year will likely mark a pivotal moment in the history of the MCU. Given that Avengers: Secret Wars, which airs in late 2027, is seen as the first step of a “soft reboot” for the Marvel universe. Thus, 2028 will be a new phase for the entire MCU franchise under Phase Seven.

At this stage, Marvel plans to merge various previously separate superhero universes. This includes Sony’s Spider-Man, as well as 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four and X-Men legacies, in the same universe as the Avengers. Thus, all the characters from Marvel will act in one interconnected narrative.

As per the earlier news, Marvel has decided to appoint Jake Schreier, known from the Thunderbolts project, as the director.

Schreier came to attention thanks to the success of Netflix’s Beef, for which he served as both director and producer. The series received widespread praise for combining a variety of genres, from drama to action to psychological thriller, into a deep and unique character exploration.

A similar approach is also seen in the movie Thunderbolts. Schreir combines superhero fantasy elements with horror, thriller, and psychological drama.

This unusual combination of genres seems to be a good fit for an X-Men movie, which has complex themes and emotional characters. Schreier’s success in these projects is also due to his collaboration with Joanna Calo, who is the person behind the Emmy-winning series The Bear on FX-Hulu, as well as the creator of BoJack Horseman and Hacks.

The X-Men movie is expected to be one of the most important releases in this new phase. The project is considered a precious last chance for Marvel Studios to regain box office glory, aiming to reach billions of dollars and rekindle audience enthusiasm. Currently, the X-Men MCU movie reboot project is planned to be released in 2028.
