Marvel Studios seems to be preparing some big surprises for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). One of their plans is to recast the actors who play the two most legendary characters: Iron Man and Captain America.
This move is in line with Marvel’s grand plan to do a reset through the Secret Wars project. It’s an attempt to merge different universes and timelines.
The ultimate goal is to allow such iconic characters to exist side by side in a new, unified, and thoroughly interconnected cinematic world.
With the release of Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027, as well as the presence of films like X-Men, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Doomsday which will be released first, Marvel seems to have enough time to introduce new characters in these iconic roles.
What is clear is that the MCU universe will continue to grow and evolve, with old heroes being reprised by new figures.
Marvel Plans to Recast the Cast of Iron Man and Captain America

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, in an interview ahead of the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, revealed that Marvel will recast.
Feige revealed that while many fans still see Iron Man as Robert Downey Jr. and Captain America as Chris Evans’ role, it is not impossible for new actors to take over the characters.
“It is difficult for anyone to replace an actor who is so attached to a role. However, people also had doubts about how to replace Sean Connery as James Bond, and in fact it worked,” he said.
This method is similar to the strategy of legendary movie characters like James Bond and Superman. After more than twenty years of creating a universe with continuous connected stories, Marvel is now looking to start a new chapter while retaining the soul and legacy of these iconic characters.
Interestingly, Avengers: Secret Wars will not only close the chapter of the Multiverse Saga. The movie also acts as a bridge to introduce new variants of old characters.
In the comic version, the Secret Wars story depicts the collapse of the universe which then gives rise to a new world called Battleworld. Battleworld is a world where alternate versions of heroes and villains can coexist.
