Director Matt Reeves has just given important news about the production schedule of the DC sequel, The Batman Part II. Matt Reeves gave the latest update on The Batman Part II script which will be completed soon.
Unfortunately, there is still very limited information about this movie, except for the main cast and release date. Matt Reeves tends not to share many details about the storyline or who the main villain will be.
Meanwhile, fans can get back to exploring the crime-ridden Gotham City through The Penguin series. The series subtly prepares for the arrival of The Batman Part II, especially with the appearance of the Bat-Signal at the end of the story.
1. The Batman Part II Update: Script to be Completed
In an interview with Zoë Kravitz that Variety published, Matt Reeves revealed that he is writing the script for The Batman Part II. He also mentioned that the filming of the movie is planned to begin in 2025. Currently, The Batman Part II is scheduled to air on October 2, 2026.
“Of course, we are finalizing the script. We’ll start filming next year.”
Reeves describes the scriptwriting process as the experience of being in a dark room with no light. “Everything we need is in that room, but there are no lights. We have to search by feeling, and when we find the right thing, we know it’s valuable,” he says.
While this approach may seem slow, it shows Reeves’ dedication to creating a strong and satisfying story.
James Gunn’s Superman is currently the center of DC’s attention with the release of posters, teasers, and trailers. However, there are several other DC projects that are also in development. In addition to all the projects that fall under the “Gods and Monsters” chapter of the DCU, The Batman Part II is also on track to meet its scheduled release date of October 2026.
Despite rumors of cancellation after delays, Reeves remains optimistic. James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, also confirmed that the project is still on track. With the script nearing completion and the spin-off plans moving forward, it looks like The Batman universe will continue to evolve in interesting directions.
2. The Penguin Season 2 is also in Development
Matt Reeves has also confirmed that a second season of The Penguin is in development, which means the team behind The Batman franchise will be busy at work in 2025.
DCU’s announcement of Batman-related projects Clayface and Dynamic Duo may indicate that DC Studios will focus more attention on Batman in the DCU than on Matt Reeves’ The Batman franchise.
However, updates regarding The Batman Part II and the second season of The Penguin suggest differently. Both The Batman Part II and the second season of The Penguin were quite successful like their predecessors, despite not having any connection to the DCU.
Matt Reeves gave an update on The Batman Part II and The Penguin season two soon after the announcement about Clayface and the Dynamic Duo. This suggests that The Batman franchise will not be limited to just a movie trilogy and a season of one spin-off show.
If The Batman Part II and The Penguin season two are as well received as The Batman and The Penguin season one, then Reeves’ DC Elseworlds franchise could spawn more sequels and spin-offs.
