10 MCU Movies With the Longest Runtime So Far

With all the movies released so far, here are the 10 MCU movies with the longest runtime so far. Let's just start the discussion, shall we?

Here are the 10 MCU movies with the longest runtime so far. There is no denying that in the current era of feature films/cinema. The average movie release, especially the superhero genre, has a longer duration or running time. Or in other words, it’s very normal.

So it would be strange if we still feel surprised or even complain if we read or hear that a superhero movie like MCU, has a duration of more than 120 minutes or 2 hours.

After all, as we also know with the specificity of the cinematic shutter. It feels very lacking or awkward if the duration is only 2 hours. Although there are also some superhero MCU films that are 2 hours long.

But then again, on average most MCU movies now have a running time of more than 2 hours. And here are the 10 MCU movies with the longest duration so far.

Apart from each movie’s Wikipedia page, this discussion is also sourced from a list (listicle) courtesy of ScreenRant. If that’s clear, let’s just start the discussion, shall we?

10. Black Panther (134 Minutes)

The first of the longest runtime MCU movies so far is one of the audience’s favorites (fanboy/ non-fanboy), Black Panther.

Although in this list, this superhero movie featuring the late Chadwick Boseman (Get On Up, Da 5 Bloods) as the superhero is considered the longest. But if we look and think again, the 134-minute duration looks and feels just right for a superhero origin movie.

In fact, if we think about it again after watching the movie and also seeing the crazy impact that the movie left behind, Black Panther should have been at least 150 minutes long. Let’s hope the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which will be released on November 11, 2022, can make that happen.

9. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (136 Minutes)

The next longest runtime MCU movies so far is this sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). Only 2 minutes different from Black Panther, the duration of The Winter Soldier for me personally is just right. The duration successfully tells the story and resolves some of the plot conflicts very well.

But for some audiences/fans whether I read on the internet or close friends, they consider this duration very long and even boring. This is because they are the type of audience who would prefer a superhero movie that has a lot of action and not too much talking.

Especially if the talk contains political elements with the organization.

8. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (137 Minutes)

It’s only one minute longer than Captain America: The Winter Soldier. For me, the 137-minute duration of this sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) is a bit long. Maybe 145-150 minutes is the right length for the movie.

The reason is that this sequel is quite rushed in telling the story of the movie. This is compounded by the absence of a bit of origin storytelling for the film’s second villain, Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki).

Well, hopefully the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which will be released on May 5, 2023. The movie can be longer so that it is an opportunity for the movie to explain Ayesha’s origins further.

7. Avengers: Age of Ultron (141 Minutes)

Although it is still often considered as one of the MCU films that is a little disappointing. But there’s no denying that this second Avengers movie has a pretty good duration. Although it should be a little more. Yes, about 158 minutes.

Because of this duration, some of the supporting plots such as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) getting a vision related to his Infinity Stones are not shown. Fortunately, the scene was later released as one of the deleted scenes from the movie.

But at the same time, it’s thankfully long enough to tell the origin of one of the MCU’s most popular characters, Vision (Paul Bettany).

6. The Avengers (143 Minutes)

Although only 2 minutes different from the second movie. But oddly enough, the first Avengers movie has the perfect length. Perhaps this is also due to how to the point and not too complicated, the plot is.

So again based on that statement, when the movie is over, we as fans/audiences still feel satisfied.

5. Captain America: Civil War (147 Minutes)

I honestly applaud what the MCU and directors Anthony and Joe Russo (Avengers: Endgame) did with this movie in its 147-minute duration.

Imagine this. The movie essentially has two tasks, adapting the storyline of the hit Marvel comic that was famous for its buzz, Civil War (2006-2007). Then the movie must also tell the debut of Peter Parker aka Spider-Man (Tom Holland) in the MCU.

And once again, the Russo brothers have made great use of the duration very efficiently.

4. Spider-Man: No Way Home (148 Minutes)

The next MCU movie with the longest running time so far is Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Although only 1 minute away from Captain America: Civil War (2016), but like my opinion of that movie, this movie also has a very fitting and efficient duration. Even though this movie features 3 Spider-Man as well as villains two previous Spider-Man franchises.

On top of that, the movie explores the multiverse a bit further. This is compounded by the fact that the movie still has to tell the story of Peter Parker’s continuing life.

Anyway, director Jon Watts (Cop Car) is really good at managing everything in this duration.

3. Avengers: Infinity War (149 Minutes)

On the surface, this duration seems very short for the size of the big war movie Avengers VS Thanos (Josh Brolin) on the MCU screen.

However, knowing that Infinity War is the first of the two concluding phases of the MCU’s Infinite Saga. So this 149-minute duration feels fitting and efficient. Because this duration is very fitting to provide tease as well as the initial excitement of the Avengers VS Thanos battle. And once again, it is very evident when and after watching this movie.

2. Eternals (156 Minutes)

Whether or not you like the MCU’s very divisive movie. But there’s no denying that 156 minutes is more than enough for Eternals.

Even those of us who were previously unfamiliar with the story and characters of this Marvel celestial group, the cool thing is that in 156 minutes, we can immediately understand and be familiar. Although yes, if we really want to understand it, we certainly have to read the comic too.

But then again, it’s really cool that Marvel and director Chloe Zhao (Nomadland) can immediately familiarize us with the story and characters of the Eternals in such a short duration.

1. Avengers: Endgame (181 Minutes)

Now this is the MCU movie with the longest runtime of all its releases and phases so far. Yes, this is the first MCU movie with a running time of up to 3 hours.

Even if you remember. When news of the detailed duration of Avengers: Endgame (2019) appeared at that time, almost all media and netizens gave tips or recommendations to bring snacks or drinks when watching the movie.

And yes, I admit, I was also exposed to this advice at that time. But when I arrived at the studio, the 3-hour duration was not felt at all. This is due to the genius of the Russo brothers and Marvel who are very smart in managing the scenes.

Or in other words, in the first 2 acts, we are given the build-up and the temporary resolution of the scene. Now the big resolution is in the lead-up to the climax scene.

This is not to mention the super epic final battle between the entire Marvel superhero team so far and Thanos’ team. It’s only after watching the movie that we realize that 3 hours of our lives have been spent with this movie.

Okay guys, those are the 10 MCU movies with the longest runtime so far. Which of these 10 movies felt long to you when watching the movie?
