The Mission: Impossible franchise is back with a new movie titled Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. The synopsis of The Final Reckoning tells the story of Ethan Hunt and his team who continue their dangerous mission to thwart the evil plans of Entity. The Entity is an advanced artificial intelligence whose ambition is to create a new civilization in the world.
The Final Reckoning is the eighth and final movie in the M:I series that has spanned nearly three decades. The movie continues to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie. He is a filmmaker who has collaborated with Tom Cruise on various projects, including the last four films in the M:I saga.
1. Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning Synopsis
The eighth film in the Mission Impossible series will continue the story from the previous film, focusing on Ethan Hunt’s (Tom Cruise) mission to confront the evil artificial intelligence called The Entity.
Dead Reckoning ends when Ethan manages to get the key that leads him to The Entity room, which he has been looking for all along. However, the challenge is that the chamber is stored inside the wreck of a Russian submarine called Sevastopol.
Although Ethan’s main goal is to destroy the artificial intelligence, many other countries are also trying to seize it and it is possible that they will use it as a weapon.
Ethan and his team do not know the exact location of the submarine, making the search for the wreck of Sevastopol part of the plot of the eighth Mission: Impossible movie.
Ethan began to explain to his team the complicated situation they were in. He then assigns Benji, Grace, Paris, and Degas to locate the coordinates of Sevastopol, while Ethan himself attempts to find the ship by diving directly.
In the midst of his search, he meets Luther (Ving Rhames) whose health is deteriorating, although he is still able to create malware to tame the Entity. However, the malware called Poison Pill was stolen earlier by Gabriel, so Ethan must try to get it in order to stop the Entity.
On the other hand, the United States is in a state of emergency due to the Entity threat. The artificial intelligence plans to take control of all the nuclear missile bases and then fire all the missiles to destroy the Earth.
In addition, the movie hopes to reveal some unsolved mysteries, including the relationship between Ethan and Marie (Mariela Garriga).
2. Cast List and Showtimes
Some familiar names of the M:I franchise are set to return to action alongside Tom Cruise, including Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett. Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Greg Tarzan Davis will also return after appearing in M:I 7.
Other cast members who will reappear in The Final Reckoning include Vanessa Kirby as The White Widow, as well as Esai Morales who plays Gabriel, a new enemy who has a connection to Ethan’s past.
M:I – The Final Reckoning also introduces new faces to the cast, including Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, and Janet McTeer. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hits theaters starting May 21, 2025.
