Mortal Kombat II Release Date Postponed

The highly anticipated release date for Mortal Kombat II this year has been postponed. Check out the schedule changes below.

Fans of Mortal Kombat II will have to be patient a little longer, as the film’s release date has been officially pushed back. This is certainly disappointing, especially after the bloody trailer for Mortal Kombat II garnered over 100 million views globally.

Mortal Kombat II will introduce more popular characters from the game series. One of the main attractions is the appearance of Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, plus the return of actors from the previous film.

The bloody scenes that are characteristic of Mortal Kombat add to the expectation that this film will be more brutal than its predecessor.

Release Date of Mortal Kombat II

The high level of enthusiasm from fans prompted Warner Bros. to make a strategic decision. Instead of releasing the film in October, which is usually a slow month for moviegoers, the company chose to schedule it for the summer, a time they considered more profitable for big films.

According to WB’s Instagram account, Simon McQuoid’s film has been delayed from its original release date. Mortal Kombat II was originally scheduled to be released on October 24, 2025, but has now been pushed back to May 15, 2026. October 2025 itself is already packed with several films, including Good Boy, Tron: Ares, The Black Phone 2, and Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere.

Warner Bros. also wants to avoid the risk of losing out to films with different audiences. The studio wants to position Mortal Kombat II as its flagship film at the start of the summer season. WB hopes that the film will dominate the box office more easily.

May often marks the start of summer with many blockbuster films dominating the box office. This year, Warner Bros. enjoyed sweet success with the release of Final Destination: Bloodlines in the same month, which became the highest-grossing film in the franchise.

Of course, repeating that success was one of the main considerations that caused the release schedule for Mortal Kombat II to be delayed.

Waiting another seven months certainly feels like a long time, especially after the trailer has given us a glimpse of thrilling battle scenes full of surprises. However, Warner Bros.’ decision to push back the release date reflects their confidence in the quality of this film.

With the right placement in the summer, it is hoped that Mortal Kombat II will be able to achieve its best performance and become one of the most impressive action films of 2026.
