In just a few months, 2024 will end and enter 2025. There are many new movies that movie fans are looking forward to in 2025.
The year 2025 will be full of beloved movies that remind us of the past, long-awaited sequels, and new movies from Marvel that feature all of our favorite actors. In addition, some horror movies are also worth waiting for.

New Movies that Audiences are Waiting for in 2025
1. Paddington in Peru (January 17, 2025)
The much-loved and famous Paddington bear character (Ben Whishaw) returns to the big screen with his latest adventure. The third movie in the series is from director Dougal Wilson, and will follow Paddington as he explores the depths of the Amazon rainforest after a mysterious force takes him there.
Paddington in Peru will be released in the UK on November 8, 2024 and will be widely available in early January 2025, on the 17th.
2. Wolf Man (January 17, 2025)
The next new movies coming in 2025 is Wolf Man. It’s too early to say much about this movie, but Universal is working on the next reboot of the classic monster by Leigh Whannell, the man who surprised us in 2020 with The Invisible Man.
What is certain is that Julia Garner and Christopher Abbott have agreed to be cast in the project, but there is no further information yet. If Whannell can bring the same charm that made The Invisible Man so successful, we can expect to see exciting things in this Wolf Man movie.
3. In The Grey (January 17, 2025)
Next up is In The Grey. Jake Gyllenhaal recently appeared in Prime Video’s Road House, where he showed his tough guy attitude in Guy Ritchie’s latest action thriller. Previously, Gyllenhaal also appeared in Ritchie’s war thriller, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant.
Now, he will collaborate with Henry Cavill and Eiza Gonzalez, who reunite after Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. These three characters form an intrepid team determined to reclaim the billions that have been stolen from them.
4. Mickey 17 (January 31, 2025)
South Korean director Bong Joon-ho continues to build on his Academy Award-winning work with Parasite, this time adapting Edward Ashton’s sci-fi novel Mickey7.
In this movie, Robert Pattinson plays the role of an employee who can be used and discarded. He will go on a mission to explore a new planet. During the mission, he has the ability to regenerate while carrying the memories of his previous life whenever he dies.
5. Captain America: Brave New World (February 14, 2025)
Sam Wilson, formerly known as The Falcon, has now stepped into the role of Captain America in Disney+’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and he’s ready for the big screen.
Tim Blake Nelson, who used to play the character-turned-Marvel villain The Leader, will return to bring back the character who first appeared in The Incredible Hulk and was seemingly forgotten until now. Harrison Ford will also join the cast, taking on the role of Thaddeus Ross after the departure of William Hurt.
6. Snow White Live Action (March 21, 2025)
The next new movies in 2025 that fans are anticipating is the live action Snow White. Although critics have often not given positive reviews to most of Disney’s live-action remakes of their animated classics, the films have turned out to be huge box office successes.
This might explain why Snow White will get the same treatment, 87 years after the original cartoon was released in 1937. Rachel Zegler, known from West Side Story, plays Snow White, while Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot plays the Evil Queen.
The movie will be directed by Marc Webb, who also directed The Amazing Spider-Man, with a script he co-wrote with Greta Gerwig.
7. Minecraft Live Action (April 4, 2025)
The highly acclaimed game Minecraft is currently in the process of being adapted into a live-action movie. While the story details are still a secret, given that the game focuses more on world-building and survival mode without too much plot, the potential for this movie is huge.
Jason Momoa and Jennifer Coolidge will be starring in the movie, although we haven’t gotten any information about their roles yet. However, some of the characters we already know about are Steve (Jack Black), Dawn (Danielle Brooks), and Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen).
8. Thunderbolts (May 5, 2025)
Next up is the MCU’s Thunderbolts. Marvel’s second offering in 2025 will pick up stories from some of the previous titles in the MCU.
In this story featuring supervillains turned heroes, you will see characters like Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylendko), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross played by Harrison Ford. He will make his debut as this character in Captain America: Brave New World.
9. Mission: Impossible 8 (May 23, 2025)
Tom Cruise returns to action as Ethan Hunt in a movie originally titled Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two (the official title has yet to be released). After Hunt managed to get both keys at the end of Dead Reckoning, the new film will focus on his mission to find the missing submarine Sevastopol while stopping Entity, an AI program.
Returning cast members include Haley Atwell (Grace), Simon Pegg (Benji), Vanessa Kirby (Alanna), Ving Rhames (Luther), Pom Klementieff (Paris), and Esai Morales (Gabriel). In addition, there are also new faces in the cast lineup such as Hannah Waddingham, Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman, Janet McTeer, and Lucy Tulugarjuk.
10. Karate Kid: Legends (May 30, 2025)
The next new movies in 2025 is Karate Kid: Legends. The highly acclaimed Netflix series Cobra Kai has managed to keep the appeal of the martial arts franchise from the ’80s in the minds of many. In 2024, Sony will once again explore the world of this IP with a new installment.
At first, the film was unrelated to the previous films or the Netflix series, but the casting announcement mentioned that Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan would be cast together as their characters, Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han.
Some other information has yet to be revealed, except that Ming-Na Wen and Joshua Jackson are also included in the supporting cast.
11. Ballerina (June 6, 2025)
The first spin-off movie from the John Wick universe features Ana de Armas. She will be one of the female assassins trained by Ruska Roma, a crime organization led by “Director” (Anjelica Huston).
While information regarding the movie is still limited, what is clear is that it will be a story about revenge. The movie will also be set between the events of Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, so Keanu Reeves and his Continental colleagues will also make an appearance.
12. How to Train Your Dragon Live Action (June 13, 2024)
Dean DeBlois, the creator of the How to Train Your Dragon animated trilogy, is now working on a live-action version. This live-action version will feature iconic characters such as Hiccup, Astrid, Toothless, and their friends. The original animated movie itself tells the story of Hiccup’s growth, following his journey from childhood to adulthood.
However, in this live-action adaptation, the focus will be on Hiccup’s first encounter with Toothless, a friendly and hard-to-kill dragon, even though it goes against the traditions of his village, Berk, which is populated by Vikings and dragon hunters.
13. 28 Years Later (June 20, 2025)
The next highly anticipated new movies of 2025 is 28 Years Later. After launching the iconic film in the zombie genre, 28 Days Later, and handing over directing duties to Juan Carlos Fresnadillo for the sequel, 28 Weeks Later, Danny Boyle is now back as director for the third film in the series.
Boyle also co-wrote the screenplay for 28 Years Later with original writer Alex Garland – an additional reason to be excited about the movie – and has assembled a cast, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes.
14. M3GAN 2.0 (June 27, 2025)
Director Gerard Johnstone of M3GAN fame will return to direct the sequel to this sci-fi horror film. Although details of the storyline are still a secret, producer James Wan gave a hint about the movie.
M3GAN 2.0 will continue the story from the end of the first movie and investigate the repercussions that occur when AI robots connect with devices in human homes. Allison Williams and Violet McGraw are confirmed to return as Gemma and Cady.
15. F1 (June 27, 2025)
Warner Bros., Apple Original Films, and Dawn Apollo Entertainment, led by seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, are preparing a movie that will take audiences into the world of F1 racing.
This upcoming movie features an impressive lineup of famous stars, including Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, and Tobias Menzies. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for blockbuster films such as Tron: Legacy and Top Gun: Maverick, the story follows Brad Pitt as an ex-racer who returns from retirement to mentor a new racing talent (Idris).
Filming took place during an actual Grand Prix weekend and the development of the movie involved input from the Formula 1 community as well as race promoters.
16. Jurassic World Rebirth (July 2, 2025)
The majestic dinosaur phenomenon of the Jurassic franchise is coming back to the screen with renewed vigor. Figuring out the plot details is as difficult as digging up dinosaur fossils. This latest movie is executive produced by Steven Spielberg and features a stellar lineup of stars such as Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.
Gareth Edwards, who previously directed Godzilla (2014), will be directing, while David Koepp, the writer of the original Jurassic Park, returns as the writer for this latest film.
17. Superman DCU (July 11, 2025)
Next up is Superman from DC’s new universe. DC Studios CEO James Gunn will direct, write, and produce the latest reboot of Superman. The movie will bring Superman into a new generation of the connected DC Cinematic Universe. The movie will not be an origin story, but instead will focus on Lois Lane and Clark Kent.
For many Superman fans, it’s disappointing that Henry Cavill will not be returning to play the superhero. Instead, David Corenswet will be taking over the role, presenting a younger and optimistic Superman, in contrast to Cavill’s darker version.
18. The Smurf Movie (July 18, 2025)
The Smurfs will be gracing the big screen again, this time in musical form. This is one of several Smurf-inspired feature films in development.
In this movie, Rihanna will be voicing the character Smurfette. Not only that, Rihanna will also serve as a producer and has announced at CinemaCon 2023 that she will be writing and performing new original songs for the project.
In April 2024, it was revealed that many famous actors were involved, including Nick Offerman, Octavia Spencer, Kurt Russell, and others. However, the movie’s release date eventually changed from Valentine’s Day 2025 to a summer opening in July.
19. The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25, 2025)
The next upcoming new movies of 2025 is The Fantastic Four: The First Step. Fantastic Four returns for the third time, 20 years after the first theatrical debut of Marvel’s First Family and 10 years after the unsuccessful reboot.
This latest version joins the MCU as part of the Multiverse Saga, bypassing the team’s origin story and preparing for future crossovers, which will probably continue into the next Avengers movie.
At the moment, other information about the movie is still limited, except for the main cast: Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm, while director Matt Shakman, will helm the project.
20. The Naked Gun (August 1, 2025)
The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer returns with bumbling detective Frank Drebin, previously played by Leslie Nielsen in the classic TV comedy Police Squad! as well as three Naked Gun films from the late 1980s to mid-1990s.
So, who is trying to fill the shoes Nielsen left behind? None other than Liam Neeson.
21. Nobody 2 (August 15, 2024)
After the success of the first movie, Universal Pictures immediately gave the go-ahead to produce a sequel to Nobody. The movie Nobody features Bob Odenkirk, who is widely known for his role as lawyer Saul Goodman in the series Breaking Bad.
Information about Nobody 2 was first announced in 2021. Bob Odenkirk and some of the main characters from the first movie will return to their roles in this sequel. Interestingly, Nobody 2 will be directed by Timo Tjahjanto, an Indonesian director.
22. Thread: An Insidious Tale (August 29, 2025)
Next up in the Insidious horror franchise. Mandy Moore and Kumail Nanjiani will appear in the sixth installment of Blumhouse’s horror series, Insidious. With a total global box office revenue of $750 million, the films in the Insidious franchise depict beings from another dimension that seek to terrorize human life, often with tragic consequences.
Starting in 2010, the series has managed to attract a large number of fans, and the latest movie, Insidious: The Red Door (2023), grossed $189 million at the international box office.
23. The Conjuring: Last Rites (September 5, 2025)
New Line’s The Conjuring film series will return with its final movie. The project is titled The Conjuring: Last Rites. Although the details of the storyline have yet to be revealed, they have been in production since last September.
Until now, there is no definite information about the storyline of this final movie. However, there is a possibility that this movie will present a cover for the entire series of previous films.
Considering that The Conjuring movies are based on real-life cases faced by Ed and Lorraine Warren, as in the previous three movies, it is possible that the fourth movie will also follow the same pattern.
24. SAW XI (September 26, 2025)
The next anticipated 2025 movies is the sequel to the horror film SAW. Not only bringing back Tobin Bell as John Kramer, the 2023 prequel, Saw X, also managed to get the best reviews in the franchise by a considerable margin.
Saw XI, originally set to release in September 2024, will reportedly continue the story from Saw X, at least according to producer Oren Koules. Although there is no certainty about this, what is certain is that Kevin Greutert will return as director and try to achieve the same success as he achieved in the previous film.
25. Black Phone 2 (October 17, 2025)
The lead actors from 2022’s smash-hit horror thriller The Black Phone will be reprising their roles in the sequel. Although details of the storyline are still a secret, the first movie told the story of Finney Shaw (Mason Thames), a child kidnapped by the “Raggedy Man” (Ethan Hawke), a ruthless serial killer.
Trapped inside a soundproof basement, Finney finds an old unplugged phone, which gives him the opportunity to communicate with the souls of the Raggedy Man’s previous victims.
Finney must use the clues provided by them to outwit his captor and escape before he becomes the next victim. The Black Phone 2 is the ninth feature collaboration between Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum, who produced the movie, and Hawke.
26. Mortal Kombat 2 (October 24, 2025)
The new version of the Mortal Kombat video game adaptation released in 2021 may not have gotten rave reviews from critics, but the movie managed to attract enough viewers that it has now spawned a sequel.
Lewis Tan (Cole Young), Jessica McNamee (Sonya), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), and supporting cast members Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion) and Tadanobu Asano (Raiden) reprise their roles from the first movie. Meanwhile, Karl Urban joins the cast as Johnny Cage. Reportedly, Joe Taslim will also return in this sequel, but he will not be Sub-Zero anymore, but Noob Saibot.
27. Now You See Me 3 (November 14, 2025)
The next new movies of 2025 is Now You See Me 3. Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco will return to play the characters of the thieving magician in the third movie of the Now You See Me franchise, alongside Morgan Freeman.
Details about the storyline of this latest movie are still limited, but if you look at the previous movies, you can expect a lot of magic, heists, and escapes. Directed by Ruben Fleischer, the Lionsgate movie will hit theaters in mid-November 2025.
28. Zootopia 2 (November 26, 2025)
The sequel to Zootopia presents the adventures of Judy Hopps, a young bunny-turned-cop (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin), and Nick Wilde, a trickster fox (voiced by Jason Bateman). They explore the big city and try to defeat Dawn Bellwether.
This highly-anticipated Disney animation comes almost ten years after the first film, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office and won the 2016 Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
29. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (December 5, 2025)
Based on the famous video game of the title, and following the trend of movies based on video games, these creepy animatronics will return to terrorize us again.
The first film earned over $80 million at the box office and recorded incredible streaming numbers on Peacock upon release for Blumhouse – despite poor reviews – making a second movie a very logical decision for the studio.
30. Avatar: Fire and Ash (December 19, 2025)
The next highly anticipated 2025 movies is The third installment of the Avatar franchise takes viewers back to Pandora and the Na’vi, this time with new biomes and new clans. ‘Ash’ or the ash people will be the symbol of fire and depict the Na’vi as not as good as we’ve seen them before.
In this film, there are new additions such as Michelle Yeoh who plays the human scientist Dr. Karina Mogue, and Oona Chaplin who plays the evil Na’vi character Varang. Avatar 3 comes after the huge success of Avatar: The Way of Water, and the first part of the fourth movie has also finished filming.
