Warner Bros has confirmed that it is developing a new Lord of The Rings movie. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2026.
According to a report from Variety, Peter Jackson, the creator of Lord of the Rings, will return as a producer. Jackson will team up with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who will also produce the project.
The Newest Lord of The Rings movie has a story like never before
Warner Bros CEO, David Zaslav, said that the movie will explore the story like never before. This suggests that the movie is not a direct adaptation of the original novel.
News of the film’s development first surfaced in February 2023. Peter Jackson stated that he liked the vision that Warner Bros had.
This news also comes after it was revealed that Warner Bros is planning to turn the Middle-earth saga into a franchise similar to Star Wars. Previously, it has been reported that Warner Bros will follow the trend of some major studios by creating a “cinematic universe” focusing on popular franchises such as DC.
One of the best trilogies in history
Peter Jackson has previously successfully directed The Lord of the Rings film trilogy which received positive praise.
The trilogy began with The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001, followed by The Two Towers in 2002, and The Return of the King in 2003.
There are several famous actors who played roles in the three films such as Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, and others.
The film trilogy was a huge success, garnering much praise and winning a total of 17 Academy Awards out of 30 nominations. Today, the trilogy is considered one of the best in cinema history.
The franchise has grown with The Hobbit trilogy film series that hit theaters from 2012 to 2014. Now, those stories will continue to the small screen through The Lord of the Rings series: The Rings of Power which will air on Prime Video.
In addition, there is also an animated movie titled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim that will bring the franchise back to life in theaters on December 13, 2024.
