Joko Anwar has made another breakthrough in the Indonesian horror cinema industry. In collaboration with Netflix, he released his debut series titled Nightmares and Daydreams. The synopsis of Nightmares and Daydreams itself is an omnibus consisting of seven terrifying stories with supernatural elements that are interconnected.
Unlike most horror movies or series, this Netflix original series produced by Come and See Pictures highlights social issues with added science fiction elements that make it even more interesting.
Joko Anwar’s presence as one of the directors in this series has made many netizens interested in knowing the synopsis.

Nightmares and Daydreams Synopsis
In each episode of Nightmares and Daydreams, there is a mystery surrounding each character.
Nightmares and Daydreams tells stories that take place both in the past and the present. Although they take place at different times, there is an interconnected relationship between the seven stories and the characters in them.
Here’s a full synopsis of all the episodes.
Episode 1: Old House
While driving, a taxi driver stumbles upon a mysterious and dark-looking nursing home in a wealthy neighborhood. Soon, he realizes that there is a terrifying secret hidden inside the building.
Episode 2: The Orphan
A couple living in poverty adopted an orphaned child as their adopted son.
The child had the ability to make them rich within six days. However, on the seventh day, they were faced with a life-threatening danger.
Episode 3: Poems and Pain
While struggling to finish his novel, a writer discovers that his own life mirrors the main character he created, which makes him even more frustrated.
Episode 4: The Encounter
A fishing village faces the threat of eviction. The anxious community enlists the help of a man who on certain nights sees and captures images of strange objects in the sky.
Episode 5: The Other Side
A man comes to an old movie theater where he used to work. He intends to remember the past, but instead gets involved in a life-changing event.
Episode 6: Hypnotized
This episode tells the story of a man who lives in difficult financial conditions and works as an electronics technician.
In his quest to improve the quality of his life, he decides to learn hypnosis techniques to change people’s circumstances. However, he must face the consequences of his decision.
Episode 7: PO Box
In the last part of the episode “Nightmares and Daydreams”, a diamond expert is trying to find his missing sister. As he follows every clue, he finds himself in a very dangerous situation.

Nightmares and Daydreams also features a number of well-known actors and actresses such as Ario Bayu, Lukman Sardi, Nirina Zubir, Marissa Anita, Kevin Ardilova, and Sha Ine Febriyanti.
Some of the names that often work with Joko Anwar in his projects also participated, such as Fachri Albar, Asmara Abigail, and Kiki Narendra.
Joko Anwar himself worked on two episodes of the series. The rest are by Ry Pakpahan, Tommy Dwo, and Randolph Zaini.
Starting June 14, 2024, the series Nighmares and Daydreams is available on Netflix. You can watch all seven episodes in one day.
