The 2023 Razzie Awards has been met with controversy for nominating actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Firestarter).
A few hours ago, Dafunda uploaded an article listing the nominees for the 43rd Razzie Awards aka 43rd Golden Raspberry Awards.
This award can be said to be a “counter Oscar.” Because this award is to give “awards” to actress/actor movies, and all aspects of movies that are considered the worst in the previous year.
Now if you are a super meticulous moviegoer, you might feel something strange in the Worst Actress category. Yes, there are only 4 actresses there. Whereas in previous years there were always 5 actress nominees. No doubt, you must be confused when you see it.
Razzie Awards and the Ryan Kiera Armstrong Controversy
So initially the number of worst actress nominees was indeed 5 as usual. But the Razzie immediately deleted one of the nominees because, the figure of the nominated actress reaped massive controversy.
Well the nominee who was revoked was Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The Razzie Awards originally nominated Ryan Kiera Armstrong for his role as Charlie McGee in the Firestarter (2022) movie reboot.
Initially, the Razzies felt that their actions in nominating Armstrong were normal, or as usual. But it turns out that their belief is very inversely proportional.
Many Protest
Instead, the Razzie Award action that nominated Ryan Kiera Armstrong was heavily criticized. Those who protested were not only ordinary people, some of his fellow actors who were much more mature also protested.
And here are some of those protest tweets.
Reactions and Actions Taken
Now after getting a lot of bombardment of protests here and there, then what is the reaction and also the actions taken by Razzie?
According The A.V. Club, fortunately the Razzie immediately apologized, and also immediately made significant changes to the nomination rules. So because of this, Razzie immediately has a new rule, namely, in the future they will no longer nominate actors / actresses who are under 18 years of age.
Wow, there are just guys. Now, how do you respond to this controversy?
