Although there has been no official statement from Marvel Studios, it is reported that Sam Raimi is currently working on the sequel to Doctor Strange, the Doctor Strange 3.
This news indicates that the third film of the Doctor Strange trilogy will happen, since the second film which aired in 2021.
1. Sam Raimi in Final Negotiation Stage for Doctor Strange 3
According to Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Sam Raimi is in the final stages of negotiations to direct Doctor Strange 3. The movie will be a sequel to the 2021-released Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which Raimi is also working on.
It was Raimi’s first MCU film, although he had previously directed all three films in the Spider-Man trilogy. But at the moment, neither Raimi or Marvel Studios have confirmed this report.
The overwhelming success of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has many people speculating about a third movie. The second movie alone earned nearly $1 billion at the global box office.
The Multiverse of Madness takes the audience to more eccentric dimensions. Fans must therefore be hoping that the third movie will continue this magical adventure with more intrigue surrounding the multiverse.
2. Estimated Release Schedule
This is very exciting news for Doctor Strange fans. Especially after a disappointing statement from Benedict Cumberbatch back in May. Cumberbatch stated that he was “as clueless” as the fans regarding the continuation of his character’s solo movie in the MCU.
In an interview, Cumberbatch admitted that he has no information about when the third movie will begin production or what the plot will be like.
But with the news that Sam Raimi will be returning to work on Doctor Strange 3, it also provides the first clear indication of the film’s existence since the release of Multiverse of Madness, which ended on a cliffhanger.
Considering the timing of this rumor and the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch has previously stated his possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, there is a possibility that Doctor Strange 3 will release in between Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
