If we’re being honest, Disney’s Star Wars trilogy as a whole, isn’t very cool. However, this trilogy still manages to feature a lot of twist jokes that surprise us.

5. Rey is Sheev Palpatine’s Granddaughter
Star Wars trilogy was the reveal in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), that Rey (Daisy Ridley) is the granddaughter of Sheev Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid).
It’s surprising because from the previous two movies, Rey was teased as a “nobody” who just happens to be a person who has a very high force sensitivity. Well, to be honest, this premise is actually very interesting and fresh.
Because we as the audience are also very curious about how he was born with such high sensitivity. But all that curiosity is ruined by this twist. Surprising indeed, but not what we expected.
4. Kylo Ren is Han Solo and Leia’s son
Well, this familial reveal still makes more sense and is really fun. In fact, it makes the character arcs of Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Leia (Carrie Fisher), and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) even deeper and more emotional.
And the reveal of this twist is also much more surprising than Rey and Palpatine. Anyway, I still remember very well when this twist was shown. I was also really surprised. But it was a fun surprise.
It’s a shame that I had already gotten to the spoilers. But even with all the spoilers, this twist still felt surprising.
3. Darth Sidious is Still Alive
Sheev Palpatine aka Darth Sidious as we know is the figure of the Sith (the enemy of the Jedi) who was very evil in the previous 6 Star Wars films.
He is the mastermind of all the events crimes that occur in the 6 films. And in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (1983), he was finally killed by his own student, Darth Vader (David Prowse).
When he died, the whole galaxy became peaceful again. Now when this new Star Wars trilogy appears, we see that the cause of the chaos is a new villain , Snoke (Andy Serkis).
Now when we see this, we feel very excited and don’t mind. In fact, it makes us curious about his past. But Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker came along and massively retconned this aspect of the trilogy’s source-of-evil plot.
It was revealed that Palpatine aka Sidious is still alive and is the one controlling Snoke and Kylo Ren all this time.
2. Finn is Nobody
Maybe for you guys, this twist isn’t big. But for me personally, this twist is crucial. Indeed, Rey is the main character (Luke Skywalker in this trilogy). But at the same time I was convinced that Finn (John Boyega) was an important figure.
Especially in the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), he wields a lightsaber and fights Ren. Unfortunately, the trailer didn’t live up to expectations.
It’s revealed that Finn is just a former Storm Trooper who came to his senses. While this backstory is good for Finn’s character development, I still wish he was related to one of the familiar characters or had a background as a Jedi.
But that’s all it was in the end. It’s surprising but, rather than Rey Palpatine, I like this twist.
1. What Luke Did to Kylo in the Past
Well here’s the super surprising twist of the new Star Wars trilogy. And not just surprising, but the best of the entire trilogy.
It was revealed in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), that what caused Kylo to target and want to kill Luke was because of what Luke had done in the past. Specifically, when Kylo was still his student.
Still using the name Ben Solo, Luke wanted to kill Ben because he saw the premise that Ben would become a villain with his Knights of Ren group. But when he was about to kill him, Ben fended him off.
Seeing the actions of his master (even though his intentions were right), Ben held a grudge until adulthood and was determined to take revenge. As a result, this grudge culminates in the events we see in his Star Wars trilogy.
So out of these 5 shocking twists in Star Wars trilogy, which one is your favorite?
