Shogun was originally a limited series that aired on FX with only 10 episodes and 1 season. However, it was recently revealed that Shogun’s story will continue into a second season. Recent news also revealed that FX is not only developing a second season.

Streaming platform FX has officially announced that they plan to continue the Shogun series through season 3. Several key behind-the-scenes figures, including Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, as well as Hiroyuki Sanada, will return in their previous roles.

Currently, no other information is available regarding when production will begin. However, it is rumored that the series writers will start looking for story ideas for the second and third seasons next summer.

With this news, it means that Shogun is no longer a limited series. However, what makes fans curious is how the storyline will develop in the two new seasons.

The first season of the Shogun series is entirely an adaptation of the original novel by James Clavell. This means that the second and third seasons will be completely different from the stories in the novels.

Fans are actually hoping that the story in this series does not continue into the next season. This is because the ending of the recent first season episode matches the ending in the novel.

However, Hiroyuki Sanada’s decision to make a second season and now a third as well, which will most likely not be derived from the novel, can be said to be very brave.

The writers of the Shogun series had to use their imagination to create an interesting storyline in order to continue the unanswered questions from season 1.

There are many things that remain a mystery in the first season that will likely be explored further in season 2 and season 3.

However, another option that could be considered is the possibility that FX will adapt the Asia Saga, which is a collection of Clavell’s stories depicting the meeting of Western and Eastern cultures, as it happens in Shogun.
