Man of Tomorrow will feature two of the most famous characters in the DC universe: Superman and Lex Luthor. James Gunn, head of DC Studios, openly explained the story concept behind their latest project. In this film, Superman and Luthor will unite against a major threat that is far more terrifying to the safety of the world.
James Gunn officially announced Man of Tomorrow as the latest DCU film on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. James Gunn made the announcement via his social media platform.
In his post, he shared an illustration by Jim Lee, depicting Superman holding a screwdriver while Lex Luthor wears a green and purple Warsuit. The film will be the third installment in the Superman Saga, following Superman and Supergirl in 2026.
Man of Tomorrow Story Leak

In an episode of the Strenshow podcast, James Gunn revealed that the film will feature extraordinary interactions between Superman and Lex Luthor.
“This is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman needing to collaborate, at least in some ways, to face a much greater danger,” said Gunn. This statement immediately sparked enthusiasm, considering that their relationship has always been one of enmity and differences of opinion.
Through this film, Gunn seems to want to steer the DC universe toward a more profound narrative experience, focusing not only on the battles between superheroes, but also on exploring character dilemmas and complex relationships.
The collaboration between Superman and Lex Luthor is clearly an unusual situation. Lex, who has always been known as a genius and manipulative figure, does not hesitate to do whatever it takes to defeat Superman.
On the other hand, Superman symbolizes hope, justice, and integrity. Therefore, seeing these two characters forced to work together to face a global threat will create a dramatic conflict that is both emotionally and morally compelling.
James Gunn will return as director and writer for the Man of Tomorrow project. He added that the character development of Lex Luthor and Clark Kent will have a balanced story proportion.
In fact, he argues that this film is more accurately described as the story of Lex Luthor and Superman, rather than simply a sequel to Superman or a spin-off focusing on Lex Luthor.
