Rami Malek returns to acting in the latest spy thriller titled The Amateur. The Amateur synopsis tells the story of a CIA cryptographer’s revenge for his wife’s death. He is forced to go straight around the world to uncover the mastermind responsible for the fateful event.
The movie under the direction of James Hawes adapts the novel of the same name, by Gary Spinelli, which was first published in 1981.
To enhance the action and drama, Hawes collaborated with two experienced screenwriters, Ken Nolan (Black Hawk Down) and Gary Spinelli (American Made). Hawes managed to turn this movie into an emotional thriller that is full of speed, but also has deep psychological complexity.
Production began in June 2023, with shooting taking place in three countries – the UK, France and Turkey. These exotic backdrops not only add visual value, but also clearly emphasize that the main character’s mission in the movie is of a large international scale.
1. The Amateur Synopsis
The Amateur tells the story of a CIA cryptography expert who is grieving the death of his wife in a terrorist attack in London. Charlie Heller (Rami Malek) vows to hunt down the man who killed his wife in the terror attack.
Charlie then receives a lead on a terrorist group conspiracy. However, when he asks the CIA for help to take action, Charlie’s superiors refuse on political and diplomatic grounds. This made Charlie decide to join the shooting training at the CIA.
There, he receives advice from senior CIA agent Robert Henderson (Laurence Fishburne) to stop his revenge intentions. Unfortunately, his lack of gun skills puts his own life at risk.
The failure further fueled Charlie’s anger towards the CIA, which he perceived as not supporting him. In an attempt to take revenge in his own way, Charlie follows the trail and eliminates one member of the terrorist group after another. However, this action makes him a target for the terrorists as well as the CIA.
