The Fantastic Four: First Steps Post-Credit Scene Explained

Here is an explanation of the post-credit scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Attention, this article contains SPOILERS!

Like other MCU movies, The Fantastic Four: First Steps also includes an additional post-credit scene, with a total of two scenes. One scene in the mid-credits and one at the end of the movie. One of these scenes gives a sneak peek into the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday in 2026.

Clocking in at around 1 hour and 55 minutes and rated PG-13, this movie features an approach that focuses more on the dynamics of the relationships between the characters rather than the spectacular action that we usually find in superhero movies.

In the finale of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the superheroes find a way to defeat Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and protect their newborn baby, Franklin. Throughout the storyline, it is revealed that Franklin has cosmic powers that stem from a cosmic storm that hit his parents and gave the members of the Fantastic Four super abilities.

Galactus hunts Franklin as a surrogate to alleviate his never-ending hunger, which forces him to devour planet after planet. However, Reed (Pedro Pascal) and Sue (Vanessa Kirby) are reluctant to give up their child so easily. Besides Galactus, there are others who are also interested in the baby and its powers.

The first mid-credits scene takes place four years after the main events of the movie. Franklin, now older and able to speak, is seen sitting on his mother’s lap as she reads him the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

After she finished reading, Sue got up to find another book for her son. She walked around the living room in the Baxter Building, picked up a new read from HERBIE, and returned to their place. However, she sensed something odd in the room. Sue then activated the energy field with her hands, bent and entered the area.

There, he saw Franklin sitting on the lap of a strange man who was only visible from behind. The man was wearing a very distinctive green hood. Franklin looked at the man’s face, even though we could not see it.

As the camera pans over the man’s shoulder, we see that he is holding a mask that has just been removed so Franklin can see his real face. It turns out that the figure is Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) who has now officially appeared in the MCU.
