The Mutant Era in the MCU will Begin

Marvel Studios will reportedly kick off the Mutant Era in the MCU with Deadpool & Wolverine as the opening movie.

Marvel Studios is organizing a major change in the direction of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Kevin Feige has announced that they will begin a new era they call the Mutant Era after the release of the Deadpool & Wolverine movies.

This movie will be the MCU’s first step in officially introducing the X-Men characters in the MCU universe.

Since San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Feige has been dropping hints to fans about plans to bring the X-Men characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

After Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, properties such as the Fantastic Four and X-Men are now part of Marvel Studios. During the Multiverse Saga phase, which includes Phase 4, Phase 5, and the upcoming Phase 6, Marvel has gradually incorporated mutant elements into their movies and TV shows.

However, Deadpool & Wolverine will be the first R-rated movie and will start a new era for mutants.

“After that (Deadpool & Wolverine) obviously – now we have characters from the X-Men universe, mutants that we haven’t had access to before,” Feige said during the press conference.

“So, this is the beginning of that, and every (project) after Deadpool & Wolverine will be the Mutant era in the MCU.” reported by The Playlist.

According to Feige, after this movie, every subsequent Marvel project will be part of the Mutant Era in the MCU. Although they haven’t officially announced it, this movie could also pave the way for an X-Men reboot. The X-Men reboot has already secured writer Michael Lesslie from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

In addition, Feige also revealed that Marvel Studios is embarking on an effort to bring X-Men characters to the movie world. In an interview, Feige stated his plan to combine characters from Fox’s X-Men films with new characters who have never appeared on the big screen.

Some examples of characters that may return are Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), and Beast (Kelsey Grammer).

With this confirmation, Marvel fans have hope to see more mutant characters in the MCU. Future movies and series will delve deeper into the world of mutants and how they interact with other Marvel heroes.
