The story begins with a baboon named Rafiki telling the legend of Mufasa to his granddaughter Kiara. Based on the trailer’s description, the story is told from a flashback perspective. It follows the journey of Mufasa, which means “king” in Swahili.

As an orphan who was lost and alone, he met a loving lion named Taka, who was the heir to the kingdom.

At the D23 event, viewers saw a trailer from the movie that featured a new song by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The song, titled “I Always Wanted A Brother”, is featured in a scene where Mufasa and Scar quickly form a friendship, which eventually develops into a brotherly bond as the song progresses to their adulthood.

Miranda, who surprised the audience while performing on stage, also revealed that she was working on Encanto when she got a script. However, after reading it, the melody started to come to her mind, so she felt compelled to accept the project.
