Junji Ito’ s Uzumaki horror manga will soon air in an anime adaptation this fall. Adult Swim has begun preparing for the premiere by releasing a teaser trailer for Uzumaki in Japanese.
Uzumaki Trailer Successfully Showcases Horror and Absurd Impressions
Junji Ito’s Uzumaki is one of Adult Swim’s latest original anime projects that they announced a few years ago. Adult Swim in its YouTube upload two weeks ago, has released a teaser trailer for Uzumaki that is not only absurd, but has a deep sense of horror.
Uzumaki tells the story of Kirie Goshima, a high school student born and raised in Kurouzu-cho, a town caught in a mysterious curse. In this town, everything, from the swirling wind to the smoke from the crematorium, turns into a spiral shape.
The townspeople experience various strange phenomena, such as spinning eyes, coiled tongues, and strangely twisted bodies. Can Kirie survive the chaos engulfing Kurouzu-cho?
Will be released in late September 2024
Junji Ito is famous for his horror works that are rich in detail and create an atmosphere that is difficult to replicate. Because of this, many of his fans are skeptical about whether his works can be properly adapted into anime form.
When one of his works, Uzumaki, was announced to be adapted into an anime by Adult Swim, fans responded with mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety.
They were looking forward to seeing how the work would be transformed into an anime format, but were also concerned about whether the adaptation could capture the uniqueness of the original manga.
This concern was further heightened by some news about the anime’s delayed release, which left many fans doubting whether the project would actually materialize.
Now, fans just have to wait until the end of September to witness the final result when the anime officially airs. On its debut, Uzumaki will air on Toonami with two language options, the Japanese version as well as the English version. The premiere will be accompanied by English subtitles.
Uzumaki will also receive direction from director Hiroshi Nagahama (Mushishi, The Flowers of Evil) with music by Colin Stetson (Hereditary). The anime will premiere on Adult Swim’s Toonami block on September 28.
After that, viewers can watch Uzumaki streaming on Max’s platform the next day. For the English dub version, it will be available every Thursday starting October 3.
