For those of you who have played Until Dawn, you will be familiar with the fact that a character’s fate can end up living or dying depending on the choices the player makes. In this movie, there will be a variation of this mechanism. Until Dawn’s synopsis tells the story of a group of young people who are killed by a masked killer, but after they die, they rise again on the same night and are trapped in a deadly time cycle.
The trend of adapting video games into movie formats seems to be making a comeback, especially in the horror genre. After several previous titles such as Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark, there is now another horror game adaptation, Until Dawn. The movie itself adapts from a PlayStation exclusive game.
1. Until Dawn Movie Synopsis
Until Dawn’s story focuses on Clover. Together with her friends, Clover tries to find out about the disappearance of her sister, Melanie, which happened a year ago.
Their search leads the group to a remote and long-abandoned visitor center. However, disaster soon strikes as a masked killer begins to pursue them one by one.
However, the most shocking twist comes when they realize that after being viciously murdered, they rise again the same night, trapped in a deadly time cycle.
Each time the clock resets, the group must face an increasingly terrifying killer. Slowly, they realize that the only way to end this horrific cycle is to survive until sunrise.
2. Popular Horror Game Adaptations
The movie adapts the game that PlayStation Studios released in 2015 and will be presented with a fresh storyline. Director David F. Sandberg, best known for films like Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, promises a thrilling horror experience filled with surprises.
David F. Sandberg shared a little information about the film’s creative approach in the first look released. “The movie has a similar atmosphere and feel to the game, but we’re expanding the world. One of the interesting aspects of the game is the choices players make that can cause characters to die in different ways,” Sandberg said.
“In this movie, we integrated the mechanism with the concept of time loop. Every time a character comes back to life, it’s as if they are entering a new horror genre. To survive, they have to be able to survive until dawn,” he continued.
3. Showing Schedule
Besides Ella Rubin, the movie also features Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Maia Mitchell, and Peter Stormare. For those of you who know Stormare as Dr. Alan J. Hill from Until Dawn, he is back in this movie with a new role.
Until Dawn is scheduled to be released on April 25, and is definitely one of the most anticipated horror movies this year. It will be competing with several other well-known horror titles such as The Wolf Man, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, Saw XI, and 28 Years Later. Most of these movies are sequels to previously popular ones.
