Production on the live action Voltron movie is officially underway, and they have chosen a new actor to play the lead. This news is based on an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter.
Newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye, an actor with no film credits yet, has landed the lead role in Amazon MGM’s live action Voltron adaptation of the mecha anime of the same name.
1. Voltron Live Action Lead Cast
Rawson Marshall Thurber, the director behind the Netflix hit Red Notice, will direct the adaptation, which will begin shooting this fall in Australia. Production includes Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar of World Events Productions, and Thurber and David Hoberman of Hobie Films.
Until now, detailed information about the movie has been limited, including the storyline. Previously, Amazon and the film’s producers had announced that they were looking for male and female lead actors. In early to mid-September, they had also conducted screen tests to audition for the lead actors.
Finally, Daniel Quinn-Toye has officially landed the lead role in this movie. Based on available information, Daniel is one of the four main male actors that the producer is looking for.
Meanwhile, the search process for one female lead is still ongoing. Reportedly, they are holding auditions for three actresses and the announcement is still pending.
2. About Voltron Anime
For those of you who don’t know Voltron, it’s a science fiction series about robots or mecha. The series is an adaptation of two Japanese series, Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV.
World Events then edited and dubbed the series into a single entity called Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The series first aired in the mid-1980s.
The story centers on five young pilots in a group called the Robot Lions. When the five robots come together, they form a powerful giant robot, known as Voltron.
