who is MODOK in Ant-Man Quantumania? Attention, this discussion contains SPOILERS!
MODOK Ant-Man Quantumania is one of the keywords that has dominated Google Trends and social media in recent days. For those of us who are unfamiliar or haven’t watched Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), we might feel that the keyword trend is unremarkable.
Specifically, we assume that the buzz of these keywords is because there are still many people who don’t know who the Marvel villain is. This assumption is not wrong and very reasonable.
MODOK Ant-Man Quantumania Holds a Mystery
But for those of us who have watched the movie or haven’t watched it but have been hit with SPOILERS here and there, we of course immediately know why these keywords are trending.
That’s right. The Ant-Man Quantumania MODOK has become very popular and sought after because of the specific mystery it contains. Okay, maybe once again some of you already know this. In fact, the movie’s IMDB page had already leaked it before the release of the movie.
But just in case there are some of you who until now have not been exposed to spoilers or have not even watched the movie, well, get ready. Because I will divulge the specific mystery or in other words the details of MODOK’s identity.
MODOK is Darren Cross
That’s right. MODOK is the movie version of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is Darren Cross (Corey Stoll).
Darren, as we know, is a former employeeof Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) who later became the main villain of Ant-Man (2015), Yellowjacket.
In the movie he became MODOK after he lost to Scott Lang aka Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) in the first movie. Specifically, after Scott defeated him, the entire costume that had basically become part of his body also became completely destroyed.
After feeling all the pain, he immediately disappeared. Now it turns out that when he disappeared, Darren actually moved realms. Specifically again to the Quantum Realm.
Saved by Kang
Now when he arrived in the realm, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who was already in the realm, immediately saved Darren.
Because when he was found, Darren’s figure was already out of shape and appearance, Kang “modified him.” Kang modified Darren into an organism weapon whose purpose was to kill.
M.O.D.O.K itself is an acronym for Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing.
Betraying Kang
At the beginning of his appearance, M.O.D.O.K became the second villain in the movie. He helps Kang to activate the Multiversal power core that can bring Kang out of the Quantum Realm.
But in the end after hearing the wise words of Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton). Cross aka M.O.D.O.K turned to help Ant-Man’s gang to fight Kang. Unfortunately, when he finally became good again, Darren died in battle.
