Rumor has it that the reboot project of the Harry Potter TV series has managed to find a candidate for the character of Professor Snape.
The Harry Potter franchise first appeared in 2001 and successfully completed its eight films in 2011. However, Warner Bros. went on to release a spinoff film titled Fantastic Beasts.
A few years after the film project was completed, it was revealed that Warner Bros. intends to reboot the franchise. However, this time, the reboot will be a TV series that will air on the HBO platform, unlike the previous Harry Potter movie format.
Until now, information about the reboot project has been limited, including the cast. However, reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety say that they have targeted one name for this project.
1. Paapa Essiedu is a Candidate to Play Snape in Harry Potter Reboot
According to Hollywood Reporter and Variety, Paapa Essiedu is reportedly being considered to play Professor Severus Snape in the upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series. Based on available information, there is currently no agreement and Essiedu has not officially accepted the role. He is the latest actor to be touted for a role in the series.
Previously, Variety also reported that Academy Award winner Mark Rylance was also in the running for the role of Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
HBO representatives, when interviewed by Variety, also commented on this news. “We appreciate that a high-profile series like this will attract a lot of rumors and speculation. As long as we are in pre-production, we will only confirm details when the deal is finalized.”
If Essiedu eventually accepts the role, this will be the actor’s return to HBO. Previously, he was cast in the series “I May Destroy You,” which aired on HBO in the US. For his performance in the series, he earned an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in a limited series.
Essiedu is also known for his role as the lead character in the crime drama “Gangs of London” as well as appearances in shows such as “Press,” “The Lazarus Project,” and “The Miniaturist.” He has also appeared in movies such as “Murder on the Orient Express” (2017), “The Outrun,” and “Genie.”

Snape is a potions professor at Hogwarts and head of Slytherin House. In the book series, he and Harry are often at odds, as Harry’s father once bullied Snape when they were students at the wizarding school. In addition, Snape also had an unrequited love for Harry’s mother, Lily. In the movie “Harry Potter,” Snape was played by the late Alan Rickman.
Severus Sanpe is a very controversial character to many. Nonetheless, he is one of the most powerful wizards in the Harry Potter universe. J.K. Rowling even believes that Snape is a hero in her heart.
However, many people can’t forget the abusive treatment he gave his students over the years, even though Snape did the right thing in the war. Snape had a great talent in potions and was a very talented wizard who could create new spells such as Sectumsempra and Levicorpus.
He was also a very powerful Occlumens; to the point of tricking Voldemort into believing he was on the Dark Lord’s side, proving him to be a heroic Slytherin.
The Harry Potter TV series reboot project really surprised many people, including the fans. Many of them are actually not in favor of this reboot plan, even the majority of the cast of the movie also expressed disapproval of reviving the story. They don’t seem to be interested in returning to the roles they once had in this project.
