18. Mirai Nikki
This anime tells the story of a student named Yukiteru Amano (Yukki) who is always alone, observing the situation around him and always writing a diary on his cellphone.
He rarely hangs out with his other friends because he always refuses if his friends invite him. Yuki’s only friend is a friend from her imagination, Deus Ex Machina, God Of Time and Space.
One morning Yuki woke up from her sleep and found that her diary that she would write that day was already filled in, more surprisingly the diary exactly predicted her upcoming events.
She noticed that Deus was messing around with the diary on her phone and realized that Deus was a real person and not from her imagination.
19. Perfect Blue
Perfect Blue anime tells the story of Kirigoe Mima, a girl who wants to sing for everyone, she is in an idol group called CHAM!
But one day she ended her career and changed her profession to become a movie artist. Mima’s die-hard fans who heard that decision felt disappointed and shocked towards Mima.
Then there was one stalker who really wanted Mima to return with her idol group, this stalker sent FAXes, made diaries on the internet, and also terrorized the people who had turned Mima into an artist.
20. Umineko no Naru Koro ni
The story begins around October 4th to 5th in 1986. Where the Ushiromiya family visits an annual event to a private island(Rokkenjima Island) owned by the Ushiromiya Family who are very wealthy.
The story focuses on eighteen people on a small island called Rokkenjima, 11 of whom make up an extended family (the Ushiromiya family). They are discussing the estate of the patriarch, Kinzo Ushiromiya, who is nearing his death.
21. Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack
The next best gore horror anime recommendation is Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack. At one time there was a foul smell coming from Okinawa, and it wasn’t of natural origin until Kaori and her friends realized it was from dead fish walking out of the sea.
The fish was fused with iron legs and infected with bacteria that humans had created as a weapon with a mysterious source.
After what happened to Tadashi, Kaori finds herself in a new world similar to her old one with the scent of death.
22. Monster
This anime titled Monster tells the story of a Japanese doctor named Dr. Kenzo Tenma who was working in Dusseldorf, Germany in the 1980s. He really hates the political system that runs in his hospital by treating patients improperly.
The little twins Johan & Anna Liebert were rushed to the hospital where Dr. Tenma worked. Johan had suffered head injuries and Anna kept mentioning things about murder.
Dr. Tenma is the only doctor who can treat Johan’s wound, unfortunately at the same time a politician also needs Dr. Tenma. He preferred Johan and managed to cure him, the politician who needed surgery eventually died.
Therefore, Dr. Tenma lost his job. Nine years had passed, a criminal was hit by a car and said something about “Monsters“. Out of curiosity, Dr. Tenma investigated deeper and once again met Johan under different conditions.
23. Yami Shibai
Yami Shibai is a horror story from Japan. Different from ordinary anime, the picture of this Yami Shibai anime uses Gaua Kamishibai, which tells stories using pictures on paper.
You will feel as if you are looking at pictures on stacked paper which makes this anime even scarier.
Yami Shibai is also known for its short duration, ranging from 3-5 minutes. But the creepiness is no joke.
24. Ghost Hunt
The next best gore horror anime recommendation is Ghost Hunt. This anime tells the story of Tamiyama Mai, a first year high school student must be involved in Shibuya Physic Research because she has damaged Shibuya Kazuya‘s camera.
Because of the incident Mai caused, Kazuya’s assistant was injured and could not continue the case. Therefore Mai inevitably had to become Kazuya’s assistant in continuing the ghost cases that occurred at his school.
