Dandadan carries a unique theme by combining elements of magic and science fiction. The main characters are two high school students, Momo and Okarun, who have contrasting personalities.
Momo Ayase is a tomboyish high school student who believes in ghosts, while Okarun is a quiet student who is often bullied and believes in aliens.

Dandadan Episode 1 Story Summary
The initial episode of the Dandadan anime opens with a fight that occurs between Momo and her boyfriend. This fight caused Momo Ayase to break up with her boyfriend. After breaking up with her abusive boyfriend, Momo Ayase felt upset.
Momo Ayase, who was feeling down, saw Okarun, a boy who was being bullied. To save Okarun, Momo decides to sit in front of his seat.
Okarun is reading a magazine about alien conspiracy theories when Momo Ayase sits in front of him, which makes the bullies stop harassing. However, Okarun misunderstands and thinks that Momo also believes in the existence of aliens.
Okarun visits Momo Ayase to thank her for helping save him from bullying.
Okarun asks Momo Ayase if she believes in the existence of aliens. Momo Ayase denies it and declares her intention to help Okarun because she dislikes oppression. However, Okarun continues to urge Momo to believe in the existence of aliens, while Momo still refuses to follow his wishes.
Dandadan Episode 2 Highlights
After the incident with Turbo Granny and Alien Serpo, Momo and Okarun decided to return to Momo’s family home. However, unfortunately, they faced new problems due to their own carelessness. What are the interesting things in episode 2 of Anime Dandadan?
1. Origin of the Name Okarun
In the previous episode, Momo was surprised to hear that her new friend’s real name was the same as her favorite actor, Ken Takakura. Not accepting that someone else has the same name as the man of her dreams, Momo immediately forbids the young man to say his real name.
She called her friend Okarun because of her friend’s interest in the occult. From there, the Turbo Granny curse sufferer got her new nickname.
2. Okarun Burned when Entering Momo’s Family Home
When they arrived at Momo’s house, a new problem arose. Okarun, who had just entered the girl’s house, suddenly caught fire after passing through the gate. Momo immediately threw her into the moat to extinguish the fire on Okarun’s body.
Momo realized that the protective amulet they had had an effect on Turbo Granny’s curse. Therefore, she was forced to remove the amulet so that Okarun could enter the house safely. Unfortunately, they didn’t realize that this decision would bring them new problems.
3. Appearance of the Alien Flatwoods Monster
The misadventures began when Momo’s doorbell rang with a strange tone. Momo, who found it unusual, remembered that her grandmother had said that there were two types of bells in their house. The first was a normal bell that would ring normally when a guest arrived.
The second one would make a strange noise if any alien creatures managed to enter Momo’s house. Well, this is the type that has been making the sound continuously all this time.
Just as expected, the figure ringing the bell was an alien known as Okarun, or better known as the Flatwoods Monster. This pesumo-like creature was able to enter because Momo had removed her protective amulet.
Just like Turbo Granny, this creature comes for bananas or Okarun’s reproductive organs. The problem is that the Flatwoods Monster can emit a toxic mist that can be life-threatening if inhaled in large quantities. It’s also capable of creating thick walls that can seal off entire areas, making it impossible for its targets to escape.
4. Okarun Begins to Master Turbo Granny’s Power
Seeing how powerful the Flatwoods Monster was, Okarun began to think of ways to deal with the monster by utilizing the power of Turbo Granny. However, he also needed Momo’s esper powers to keep things under control.
With only one attempt, Okarun finally succeeded in transforming into a hybrid form. This allowed him to harness the power of his ghostly grandmother without having to sacrifice his identity. Not only that, but she also managed to dodge a powerful attack from the Flatwoods Monster and quickly cut off all five of the creature’s fingers.
The problem was, Okarun couldn’t maintain that form for too long as his weak body couldn’t withstand its power.
5. Flatwood Monster Successfully Conquered
Although it can emit poison mist and form thick walls, the Flatwoods Monster has one weakness. It will die if it loses according to sumo rules, which is when its hands touch the ground.
Momo only realized that after seeing how the Flatwoods Monster always showed monster-like movements.
Realizing the opportunity, Okarun decided to return to his stealth form even though it could only be used once more. With that action, he managed to cut off the pesumo monster’s legs, allowing Momo to knock the entity’s hands to the ground.
However, the Flatwoods Monster managed to catch Momo and threw him against the wall near his gate. As it turned out, it was all part of Momo’s plan to create a hole outside the gate. This way, she could burn the monster using the amulet while keeping Okarun inside the hole in the wall.
6. Okarun Loses Control Again
After the Flatwoods Monster incident ended, Momo and Okarun could finally feel at ease. They were relieved that the problem had been resolved, despite nearly losing their lives in the fight.
But, trouble arose again when Momo collapsed from exhaustion after the fight. As a result, Okarun lost control of his curse and became uncontrollable again.
